I have mixed feeling about 2 flaws, but overall there is a lot to like. It has some unique aspects specifically for CFLs, the slider feels great, can adjust dimming, it has an easily interchangeable plate, button, and slider for white, ivory, and almond, & great instructions. Only the button and minimum dim level give me some pause. You can dim 600W incandescent or 150W CFL or LED, but less if you need 2 (500W) or 3 (400W) of these next to each other in the same box (which is standard for dimmers). But you have to remember to toggle a switch beneath the plate between CFL or LED/INC depending on which you have. It is easy enough to get to, but is something that wasn't clear by the instructions that you should just pop off the plate to access.

PROS

Has a CFL mode (via toggle switch) that helps CFLs turn on better.

Slider feels great

Interchangeable plate, slider, and button in white, ivory, & almond.

Great instructions, good for a non-electrician, better than most I have seen.

CONS

The button doesn't feel as solid as I would have preferred (probably due to interchangeable button cover) but seems fine.

The minimum dim level adjustment is a little complicated but you can figure it out. I had to re-read the section several times, but it makes sense once you follow it. I would have preferred a simple adjustment wheel.

VERY MINOR

CFL versus LED/Incandescent toggle switch is under the cover and wasn't clear that you should just remove the cover to get to it.

Instructions font size is a little small (still better than some) but I did strain my eyes reading both sides end to end. I would have preferred larger fonts or a link to larger instructions to print myself if they didn't want to print the paper.

FYI

Note that some dimming ability still depends on your CFL bulbs. If they aren't all the same brand or actually more limited in actual dimming ability than they advertize, it can affect how much range you really get, or whether all the bulbs turn on at the same level. So you have to pick the lowest common denominator when all turn on adequately. The CFL ability of this should help a little. If you change bulbs or brands, you might have to revisit the minimum level setting again to fit the new bulbs best.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The light dimmer and on/off switch work fine and do what you want them to. But the switch feels flimsy and cheap. The way the on/off button wiggles in the slot makes it seems like it simply wont last very long. I can't imagine it going longer than a year of constant on and off. This is very disappointing due to the fact that I have other leviton products and they are well made and do not feel cheap. I wonder if they switch manufacturers or this model is just to "economical" to last everyday use.

The company that supplies my electric utility with energy-saving consumer items tested many dimmers with the new Philips "LPRIZE winning" LED bulb and selected this one as the most compatible for residential use. I haven't tried this dimmer with incandescent or compact fluorescent bulbs, but it works very well with the new LPRIZE LED bulb (see Philips 423244 10-Watt 60-Watt L-Prize Award Winning LED Light Bulb). The latter has both a blue and a red LED, and when it becomes very dim the blue LED cuts out first, causing it to glow red. With this Leviton IPL06-10Z dimmer it was easy to program the maximum dimness to be just above the level at which the blue LED cuts out, so the LED bulb ranges from very bright to quite dim while retaining its soft white color throughout. BTW, I don't have any problem with the "soft" feel of the on/of button that some other reviewers have complained about--it seems fine to me.

Pros:

I installed this dimmer as one of two 3-way switches, but you can easily install it by itself in a 2-way setting as well.

The use of a separate on/off switch and slider means your dimmer always retains its last setting.

Separate switch covers are provided for almond, white, and ivory to match your existing wall plates.

The programmable dimness feature is easy to use (just follow the directions) and enables you to work around problems like the LPRIZE LED bulb's red glow.

Cons

You need to buy a separate wall plate to go around the switch.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program If you've ever installed a basic light switch or outlet, you'll find this switch to be familiar and not too difficult (the biggest variables are really the house wires and switch box that you're dealing with). Rather than connect the house wires directly to the switch (as many basic switches require), this switch has wires extending off it that you connect to the house wires (via wire caps that are included in the kit). Pretty simple.

It's nice that the switch comes with three different color covers white, off-white, and almond.

We're only running incandescent lights from the switch so I can't comment on how effective the dimming is for fluorescent or LED lights, but it's great for our set up. The on/off button brings the lights on quickly and the slider dims and brightens the lights smoothly.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This Leviton dimmer switch filled our needs.

Props for being able to use LED bulbs and dim them...not something you'll find as a compatibility in some dimmers.

Another great feature is that if you change decor, it changes with you, or if you need to match up your other switchplates (which you should)in the room, it matches them for you becuase it comes in white, ivory, or almond...all 4 in the pack, you just use whatever color is your personal preference.

It is wired for 3-way use and was easy for us to install. And we have no experience other than installing some basic lighting, etc, in the past.

Modern yet elegant, easy for the home user, versatile, the slider allows you to dim your lights but it also has a button to allow you instant on/off access easily.
