I purchased this item to help me work on my car, as I don't have good lighting in my garage. The light seems relatively durable, and the brightness is fine. HOWEVER, I was really hoping that it would be able to, for example, light up the entire engine compartment of my car when hung from the hood. I quickly found that this light is made of many small LEDs that are all pointing straight ahead in the same direction. This means that this light functions very much like a regular flashlight with a focused "spot" of light.
As a test, I set the light on a table 20" from the wall, and it created an oval lit area that was about 10x12". Set 40" from the wall, the lighted area on the wall was about 20"x"20". This means it has a 1:2 ratio of beam to distance. This is far too poor of a ratio to use for many things. To light a 30" x 30" area under the hood of a car, you would need to hang the light about 5 feet away. So, while this may be what some of you are looking for (an adjustable worklight that has a slightly wider beam than a regular flashlight), it falls short for me who was hoping for more of a general worklight.

I've used this light bar on all sorts of home projects from working inside my hot tub to fix a leak to doing break jobs that end up stretching into darker hours. Between the magnetic base (that seems to stick to anything), rubberized bottom with feet to keep if from rolling down the driveway, and the swiveling carabiner style hook at the top, which is perfect to hanging onto springs or coils. Under the hood, my car doesn't come with a hood-light, so this thing just get's magnet-stuck to the hood and it provides a clean, even, white light over the entire engine bay. The brightness is perfect, the flexing shaft allows for precise aiming. I don't normally get too excited about a shop light, but I have to admit this thing is impressive. It even survived an evening of my 6 year old boy pretending it's a light saber without a scratch on it.... I've already put it back on my wishlist and hope to get one or two more to have around the house.
