I purchased a replacement for our front yard motion detector light (that just finally gave up the ghost) from a national chain and after removing it from the box, installing under the soffit, and spending a whole lot of time trying to get it adjusted, I finally gave up and returned it for a refund. It would either blink on and off, or stay on continuously, or just randomly turn itself off and on for no apparent reason. So then I began the hunt for another that would suit my needs when I discovered the STL360HBW. On many products that I purchase I do take the time to check the reviews on Amazon from other users (to me they are the best source of information available) and in one such review, I learned about the RAB. At first I was hesitant because of the price but I figured what the heck, if it doesn't meet expectations I know I can always return it to Amazon with no questions asked. Wow--am I glad I did! The first thing I noticed was the apparent quality of the light and the extensive, well-worded instruction booklet. There is no doubt the book was NOT written by some Chinese individual who has little experience with the English language. It was clear, concise, and covered everything from setup, to installation, to testing, to operation.

First, let me say that I am very close to 70 years old and at my age, the ol' body just doesn't function the way it did 20 or 30 years ago, or even five for that matter, but nonetheless I got this product up and running in minimum time with minimum effort. SETUP: Take it out of the box, move the light holders to roughly the position you think will suit your purpose (final adjustments are easily made after installation), take it outside and begin the mounting process. INSTALLATION: NOTE: Be certain the power is turned off at the circuit breaker box before beginning the simple wiring process. Getting hit with 110v while doing the wiring could quite possibly ruin an otherwise good day. If you are the least bit squeamish about fooling with electricity, do the smart thing and call a qualified electrician. There is an included S hook to hold the light while you are doing the wiring, but I found it unhandy since I was installing under a soffit, so I just connected the ground wires first and let that hold it while I connected the two remaining wires. It was as simple as white-to-white, black-to-black, and ground-to-ground. It doesn't get any easier than that. On this model, there is an additional red wire that can be used to wire other lights in sequence, but that was beyond my needs, so I just put a plastic connector on it to make certain there would be no bare wire touching something it wasn't supposed to--just a safety precaution. TESTING: All the other motion detector lights I ever had dealings with nearly always had a little slide switch with settings for test, 1, 5, and 10 minutes. On this model, to enter test mode you just turn the power off for 10 seconds and once you turn it back on, wait 30 seconds for the test mode to begin. My experience was that it seemed a little longer than that, but once it entered the test mode it was a snap. Once you are satisfied with your settings, vacate the area of coverage you have set and after 2 minutes it will return to automatic mode. OPERATION: There are four "dials"; one for an evening timer and another for the length of time you want the light to stay on after motion is no longer detected which can be adjusted from 5 seconds to 12 minutes. The third dial allows you to adjust at what level of darkness you wish the light to begin detecting motion and finally the last dial is the sensitivity setting. SUMMARILY: Nowhere in the description on the internet could I find whether or not it could be mounted under a soffit and so I called to get that verified--of course the answer is yes, but I think that should be included as part of the basic description. I have had this light installed for about a week now and it functions EXACTLY as it should. So far there have been no false activations, it responds to the area I have chosen to cover, and turns off when it should. I am totally satisfied with this purchase and soon will begin replacing my other problem detectors with this particular model. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Absolutely the best motion lights on the market. All commercial companies use them, and they are only sold through the best electrical supply outlets...no big box stores carry the RAB brand. All stainless hardware. I improvised by hacksawing the longest bolt because it bottomed out too early in the screw-down, and the short bolt was too short; as long as you FIRST thread a nut on FIRST, then cut the bolt, and then remove the nut, the threads will self tap. I used silicone grease on the bulbs before inserting them also. I first ordered three, then 2 more lots of three for a total of 9 motion lights.

As the title says, these are the best motion sensing lights on the market. They are well made with high quality materials. The metal parts are powder coated, however I color-matched my to the trim with Awlgrip Awlcraft 2000 epoxy paint. They painted up and matched perfectly.

For the installation there were three units on the east end of the house and two on the west end and one over the back deck. The east end lights on the upper corners were wired to come on if either unit activated. This was also the same for the west end of the house. The third unit on the east end was over the garage doors and works independently. I have two master switches on each floor that will turn them all on at the same time manually. The most impressive part of the installation is that the highest light is 27 feet above the ground. It still is plenty sensitive to pick up movement below. The lights are bright, reliable and you can link up to three of them together to activate together. The instruction book is clear and easy to follow-written in English by people who understand the language. If you need to contact RAB, they are located in New Jersey and will gladly help you with any technical questions.

Overall I'm very pleased. They were expensive to purchase but there's little doubt that they're better than anything in the big box stores. If you're serious about your security lighting and need to install them in high places then these are the lights for you.

Honest reviews on RAB Lighting STL360HBW Super Stealth 360 Sensor with HB101 Bullet

After a rash of break-ins in my neighborhood, I installed these on the corners of my house facing the back yard. My yard slopes away from the house so these are about 20 feet off the ground. Although not an ideal height, they still work like a champ. They will cover the gates leading to the back and still get anyone rounding the corner of the house who may have bypassed the gates. I spoke to a local lighting supplier and they recommended the RAB sensors as they were far superior to any of the others they had sold. Unfortunately, they didn't sell them any longer. Found these here and for a great price. Absolutely the best around.

Just something that should have been in the description, but wasn't: The bulbs are not included, and the 1000 watt capability is not correct. While the motion sensor is able to handle up to 1000 watts, the fixture themselves can only handle 150 watts each max. While the sensor's abilities are much better than the lights that you can buy at the big box stores, the output of the entire fixture is not any better. I will be returning this one and looking for a light with more than 300 watt total output. This all could have been avoided if the sellers would correctly describe the product being sold.
