I needed this item because the standard bracket that fits in a 4" octagon box would not work with the light fixture I had. I had to buy a bag of nuts to fit the machine screws, that come with this Cross Bar, so I could use the slots in the Cross Bar to line up the two small threaded wings on either side to fit the holes in the light fixture. I really hated to trash the light fixture but I couldn't find the part I needed. If I ever run into this problem again I'll know exactly the part I need.
