First with the negatives and why the 3 star review over 5 stars. The inline control switch on my hp20 has recently failed just after a few months of owning it. Now the headlamp is stuck in medium mode! Im sure amazon will take care of me as they usually do when something goes bad but I just wanted to warn users or buyers beforehand. My friend has also purchased this same exact headlamp and his did the same exact thing after 4 months. Maybe there is a problem with the inline switch that toggles power and brightness who knows. Also neither one of us use the light for anything other then lite duties outside at night, mine used for walking the dog on a pitch black half mile road. One other negative is trying to figure out how to get this thing together, it took us awhile to figure it all out. The included instructions are garbage so your on your own when you first open the hard shell clam case it comes in(very nice by the way) and all the pieces inside.
Now for the good....this headlamp is mega bright and will throw a beam a good 600 feet or more in turbo mode(230 lumens). It doesnt have an adjustable flood to throw but there is a diffuser cap to purchase to make the headlamp more floody. It has tons of modes and features as well. Battery life even on turbo mode lasts exactly 3 hours and 10 minutes on mine(when turbo worked). I have owned and currently own a lot of led flashlights and this headlamp is the brightest of the batch! It easily lights the road up for me and the dog and makes me feel more safe at night out here on the edge of town. The battery pack is seperate from the light itself and can be stored in a pocket, this works well in the cold winter months to preserve battery life! While its not to bulky the battery pack does have some weight to it. I dont think this is something I would want to lug around if I needed to use the light all the time. It would just get in the way and if you need something for long constant use my advice would be to get the hp10 model. Another good feature is the light will stay bright until the very last drop of battery life, this is an excellent feature! My other headlamp slowly gets dimmer and dimmer as the minutes pass by. You have many brightness levels as well as several flashing modes. I think fenix made a nice headlamp here but theres a few things they could have done better. They should have added an option on the battery pack to control the brightness levels besides just on that inline switch(in case it fails which it did). The battery pack has an on/off switch thats it. Its just strange that both me and my friends did the same thing because the inline switch wire doesn't feel cheap it just went without notice. Maybe the internal electronics or circuits of the switch itself is the culprit.

This is a very bright headlamp with four brightness levels and three flashing modes available. It ships in a nice plastic carrying case but the unit will not fit back into the case once fully assembled. No assembly instructions are included so assembly can take a bit of figuring out. It includes two plastic clips for routing the power cable along the headband and two additional clips for attaching the power cable to clothing. The battery holder includes a sheet metal tray that clamps to the pants belt or waist band that the battery holder slides into. The wiring from the light head to the battery pack is about 5 feet long so it provides plenty of carrying position versatility on the body or on a bicycle.I like the fact that it is listed as fully waterproof to 2 meters depth which should guarantee it is rain and sweat resistant. The battery case is very well O ringed it appears and the two halves clamp together very securely. Even though many parts are plastic it seems to be of excellent construction quality.
One thing not included or available from Fenix that should be included with the headlamp IMO is a diffuser lens. Per an email from Fenix, and verified by personal measurement, the bezel of the lamp is 32mm in outside diameter or 1.25" so the Surefire 1.25" diffuser should fit. I have ordered it.
All Fenix headlamps are listed as being voltage regulated which I consider a major advantage as they should retain close to full light output for most of battery life, particiularly if run from NiMH rechargeable batteries or Eveready L91 1.5V Lithium cells as both of those have very flat voltage curves during discharge compared to alkaline batteries.

Terrific lamp BUT ruggedness is not there as I hoped. Remote control switch broke down after just 4 months of light use. Now trying to get it fixed but Fenix customer service is in China!! Contacted Amazon for their view of point...Honest reviews on Fenix HP20 230 Lumens waterproof LED Headlamp
I bought this head lamp as part of a survival kit I am putting together and as such needed a product that could hold up to the demands that it might be put through. First, thank you mallardspring.com for your timely service, I received my shipment in two day and was very happily surprised. Now as to why I bought this 99 dollar headlamp over another companies 500 dollar head lamp. Well the obvious is the 400 dollar price difference, but besides that the Fenix is in my opinion more solidly built with rugged plastic shell and o-ring sealed components rated at 2meters of submersion. With a high of 230 lumens at 3 and a half hours and a low of 6 lumens at nearly 300 hours, not to mention three strobe settings one of which is SOS this lamp really gets the job done. Come in a well organized small lunch pale style carrying case. I love that the battery compartment can be detached from the headband so as not to ad additional weight to your head. Upon first donning the lamp I noticed that the power cord could be seen with my right eye which was bothersome, but upon further checking the contents of the little storage box i found clips which pulled the wire out of the face and laid it flat against the band keeping it out of sight. All in all I love this thing. Very bright light that keeps my hands free for when I need to go zombie hunting. Would defiantly recommend to friends and family.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Fenix HP20 230 Lumens waterproof LED Headlamp
If it were not for the poorly implemented headband, the HP 20 would be a 5 star product in terms of design, build quality and light output. As per other reports, the headband part that goes over the top of the head is useless for my size head. And I don't have a large head. I'm not sure what Fenix was thinking. That error is enough to send it back to Amazon. But I cannibalized the headbands from a much cheaper but well implemented Black Diamond headlamp that works perfectly.Perhaps this Fenix headband lapse has been corrected and Amazon is selling out their inventory of the the old stuff . So be aware. Finally, I ordered a "bundle" from Amazon that included a diffuser. Don't buy that since the diffuser thay are shipping will not fit the HP20. This bundle comes under the moniker of . . ."customers who bought this also bought this etc. etc." Just go to the Fenix website and you will find the correct diffuser model number AD03. Amazon sends you the incorrect model diffuser AD401. And of this writing Amazon does not carry the correct diffuser.
