While building a home in 2001, we chose this bulb based strictly on its beautiful aesthetics. It was installed on in 3 overhead dropped (from ceiling) fixtures, all 3 on a dimmer switch.

In the 10 years of daily usage (no/off at least 15 times per day, for a total daily usage of ~ 8 hours), we have replaced only 2 bulbs, once each.

We found the rather high per unit cost to be of great value!

Some may think "a light is a light" but these are rugged and provide more lighting than standard bulbs and are much better than the new flourencent lighting being pushed on us to replace the standard incandescent bulbs we've always used in the past. Unlike the flourescent bulbs, these provide INSTANT maximum light and don't require special handling for disposition especially if a bulb happens to break.

If you don't want the problems associated with possible mercury contamination when a bulb breaks, there are a great alternative.

Is too much. Purchased 3 of these at the same time. They all failed after 6 months within a 1 week period. They were pricey and definitely not worth the money.
