Just a few months after initial joy, we have a major disappointment.

We have contacted Malibu (Brinkmann) support several times using their website, email, and phone without any follow up to address our issues. We have sent in receipts, twice by fax, three times over email.

Our family, and neighbors, enjoyed the lights when they worked properly, but several burned out quickly. We purchased three dozen lights, including bollards, spots, and floods. We want to spend another ~$1,000 to light up our backyard fountain, trees, flowerbeds, walkways and patio, but are concerned with the quality of the lights and more importantly the quality of the response.

Perhaps this is an isolated experience. Given the number of times we contacted support, it does not seem to be the case. We are leaving this feedback for each of the lights we have purchased. Amazon is our "go-to" place for new purchases, in part because of the frankness we find in reviews.

I have 80 low voltage garden lights in our front and back yard (Bollards and 'mushroom' styles) that I installed about 10 years ago. At first I used the the halogen bulbs that came with these fixtures (LED versions did not yet exist). I nearly maxed out my 600 watt transformer. The halogen bulbs have a very high failure rate, and I was forever changing them. The are not cheap; and the heat they produce takes on toll even on these metal fixtures.

I eventually create my own home-made LED based replacement lamps (color changing it's a nerd thing) that looked nice & drew less power; however the lower light output defeated much of the 'safety & security' benefits originally hoped for.

Recent after market 'Warm White' LEDs that fit both wedge bulb sockets and the pin-sockets have become available (and are sold right here on Amazon). Based on the longevity of my home-made LED lights (9 years and 2 failures from the 85 home-made units I still have a few spares!).

I will be replacing about 20 old bollard units with these new LED ones they are well designed and very bright. Frankly, the cost of repainting the old bollards after 10 years of use and adding after market White LEDs would be no cheaper than just replacing them.

When you calculate the cost of ownership never mind the electricity savings or the smaller transformer you will need the cost of buying the 'cheaper' Non-LED bollard and then replacing the bulb twice exceeds the cost of this LED based unit.

The power savings, full brightness at the end of long runs and not digging around the garden replacing bulbs all the time are just icing.

My home-made color changing LEDs are still working, and will be moving into little 'clumps' of color-changing-mushrooms. These LED bollards and a few other new White LED fixtures will restore the light level in the garden and walkways that the wife wants back.

Do yourself a favor these units are really less expensive in the long run; they are the way to go.

As a side note: The metal and glass pieces of my current 10 year old units are still in good shape and the 50 'mushroom' lights are getting painted a brown that matches the house better before getting 'clumped' together. Both the Metal/glass bollards and mushrooms have held up well, but 10 hard winters and 10 summer of sprinklers have been hard on the paint. If I were not moving to Manufacturer-made LEDs light sources, I would just be repainting the old Bollards too.

I have about a dozen of these, all less than a year old. Several have failed, and s couple more are on the way out. I think the failure rate will be about 50% in the first year. The LED is not replaceable, so the unit is junk.

Buyer beware.

Just had installed our backyard landscaping and had landscaper install our lighting. We went all Malibu LED which included 5 spot lights, 4 wall wash lights, and 5 bollards. Had landscaper use the bollards to light up two locations where the pavers came to an end and also in our raised planter. So far I am extremely impressed for the amount of money I invested in the lighting package. Most landscapers quoted me over $1500 for the commercial grade products but figured I'd still be ahead if I had to replace every single unit 3x. The light output of the bollards is perfect, not too bright, but provides enough light to light up the ground where walkways turn or edges exist. Didn't want to use spot lights in the raised planter because they'd blind people when walking by so also used the bollards and it creates a perfect accent on the flowers and pigmy palm inside. The light color matches the spots perfectly and the I really like the simple style of these much more than the traditional stacked path light. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed.

in the LED version, the light is placed a few inches up the shaft of the bollard -this is an improvement as replacement LED MR11s used in the old (halogen) design would rust out at the pins.
