I purchased this light for my wife as a gift (requested). She makes her own jewelry and regular household lighting was insufficient. She uses the new light constantly and tells me it makes seeing her projects much easier. She said the light makes it easier to do the detail work and the magnifier helps when she is linking the chains and clasps.

Best Deals for OttLite OTL13MAG Task Lamp with Swivel Base and Flip-Down

Excellent! Recommended, if your looking for a table/desk lamp to illumiate your immediate work space, this is the lamp for you. I particularly like that the light focuses on your immediate work space and does not illuminate the entire room. It has a magnifing glass as well as the bright light, making this product great for close work and is perfect any project while seated at a desk/table, i.e., crafting/hobbies --jewelry-making, coin,stamps, small model building, scrap-booking. I am using it at my computer (magnifing and brighting my work) and also as a table lamp by my chair for reading and crocheting (and the light does not disturb others in the room or viewing TV). I'm giving this a 3 star only because of the magnifier portion. It doesn't seem to fulfill my needs so I will be shopping for a magnifying instrument. The Light is GREAT and I will probably be buying another as my spouse and I fight over who will get to use it and where to put it.

I got this OttLite and I LOVE IT! This product is amazing. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference but now it's a lot easier to see a night when I'm crafting. My average desk lamp and home lighting was just killing my eyes so I had to limit my craft hours to day time. And when you work a 9-to-5 that doesn't leave you with very many day light hours especially now that we're in the fall and winter months. But now I can work at night and see with great clarity what I'm doing.

I'd seen OttLites at local fabric and craft retailers but failed to understand what they were all about. I mean, I thought they were just another task lamp and a spendy one at that. I also thought they were for seniors and Boomers. But I was totally wrong on both counts.

At a friend's monthly craft night one of the ladies was using an OttLite and I could see quite clearly the amazing quality of the light. The most important thing to me was that it didn't cause glare and hurt my eyes. Also, the colors looked of my handicrafts looked great when held beneath this light source.

I ended up purchasing this OttLite OTL13MAG Task/Magnifier Lamp with Flip-Down Magnifier in Dove Grey. The assembly directions were probably the lamest thing about this product. They were were worse than an Ikea diagram!

Thank goodness I had seen one already set up and after giving a shout out to its owner she showed me how it was assembled. I didn't know that to turn it off or on all you had to do was close the clamshell light to its base. I honestly don't think I could have figured it out if she hadn't shown me.

Other than that,this product is of very high quality and pretty rugged. I also love that clamshell design because it makes the OttLite very portable.

Also, in addition to doing my crafts with it, I've read it's great for photographing your finished product. I haven't done this yet but if you notice an improvement in the white balance of my photos on Etsy you'll know why!

As of this week local fabric and crafts stores are currently having a sale on the OttLite for 50% off but I've found better deals on Amazon with free shipping. This may all be due to the fact that it's Thanksgiving weekend so on-line retailers maybe competing with brick and mortar storefronts and slashing prices. But it pays to shop around.

Whatever you pay for your OttLite -whether its sale or not -it's totally worth it. This task lamp is probably my number one tool for crafting and art work ever. Seriously.
