I had a mechanical in-wall timer for my whole-house fan. We use the fan at night in the summer months but when the fan shuts off and the house is quiet, the mechanical timer slowly ticks down for several minutes. The ticking is telegraphed though a common wall between bedrooms disturbing those sleeping.

The solid state timer has been in service for one month with no problems or sleepless nights. The timer is silent even during switching on/off; the 1hr, 2hr, 4hr, or 8hr time selection is illuminated and accurate. Comes complete with instructions and wire nuts.

NOTE: The unit occupies the full depth of a standard duplex box. You may need to install a deeper box to accommodate the wiring. I have a standard depth, dual duplex box where I was able to put the wiring behind the fan Hi/Low speed control switch adjacent to the timer module.

Bought the Woods Decora timer switch to have my bathroom fan turn off automatically. Although it's not that intuitive to use (I had a bathroom renovation contractor trying to figure out how to turn it off, by pushing the lights on it thinking it was buttons), it's simple enough and its been working fine the last couple of months. It,s price for value ratio can't be beat. It's probably as good as it gets, on the current market. e.g. There,s a smarter switch called the "Dew Stop". But check reviews on that, it does not come on and off reliably, and requires you close the door to the bathroom, etc. This not so smart switch at least does what its supposed to do!

Installation requires that you have a white (neutral) wire in your junction box, no problem here. Expect a tight fit, the thing takes up much of the box. I gave it one less star because the boneheads at Woods can't seem to figure out how to put the screw holes in the right place. The reason so many reviewers complain about it not fitting right on their Decora switchplate, is because the screwholes are not vertically aligned to the standard switchplate location.

Works great because unlike other timer switches it counts down the LED display so you can see how much time is left; more presses add time. Even better because there is no manual hold-on option, which negates the purpose of a timer switch, this one is always counting down to a turn off. I have 6 of them installed and they all work perfectly.

Unlike the multi-button timers, the single button is right under the red "Off" LED, which makes it easy to turn on in the dark. Smooth and positive. They mount flush with the switch cover plate for a clean look. Really nice.

I would buy these again even if they weren't half the price of the other timers I have.

I installed this timer about a month ago for an electric towel warmer. So far it has worked great, the four different settings are just right for drying towels. One of the reviews said something about them being loud when they shut off, I have not experienced that. I have been an Electrican for 40-plus years and have installed a lot of timers,overall I would recommend this timer.

Needed another timer in the house. I already had a Intermac brand bought from a bigbox for almost $30 several years ago and works great. Tried to find another one from Amazon but no luck but this Woods. Works great at half the price.

FYI: This unit makes a solid 'click' sound when it shuts off; the Intermac is silent. Luckily the silent unit is in the bedroom and this Woods in the living room so it really doesn't matter.
