Our need is for a medium base narrowly focused light source that will shoot 15' from a track or ceiling fan and fill the 3'-4' area of a typical piece of wall art with little or no splash to blind those who sit below it. Picture a typical den with some chairs or couches against the walls and a picture or two on the walls about 2-3' above the chair backs.
One would think there many models to choose from for such a common scenario. Alas, that is not the case. This item is the only one we found to replace its older brother that was labeled as "Double Life" and seems to be no longer available at brick chains or Amazon.
It seems that narrow spots are leaving the market. I previously found them at the large chain home suppliers, but not for 3+ years. Buyer beware, only a very rare few of the so-called spot lights being sold are "spot" lights. What is foisted upon you in their stead are narrow "floods" that fill almost an entire wall at 15'. That's OK only if you want to light the entire wall and prevent anyone from standing, sitting, or playing anywhere near it.
Unless you don't care about blinding people with excessive light spillage, only dying breed models like this one will suffice. Even this one, despite its focused lens covering and 10 degree beam label, is not a true focused spot but is, nonetheless, best of its current breed.
At a 15' distance across a small room, it generally illuminates about 4-8' of the wall with a brighter area of about 3'-4. All other typical "spots" or narrow floods would cover the entire wall with a brighter center at least 6-8' across.
So, for us, the is the largest spread we can tolerate even though it is the narrowest medium base spot we could find anywhere.
Our only disappointment worth a lost star is that it is not a "Double Life" which Sylvania/Osram may have discontinued silently (listing a model without supplying it). That model has "DL" added to its model code.
I will update this review if the use of this model poses any unexpected problems.

If you are looking for a very narrow spot, this is it. Quality Sylvania major brand bulb. I have this in an outdoor spot light on a fountain and it illuminates only the fountain, also picked up the 30 Degree beam version which I actually prefer but the same bulb just a little more spread.Best Deals for Sylvania 14500 - 50PAR20/HAL/SPL/NSP10 - 50 Watt PAR20 Halogen
Based on the description, such that it is a WIDE base, and NARROW beam, this sylvania bulb should be able to replace the PHILIPS bulb (which I just burned out.) I was looking for the same philips bulb, but it seems everybody is out of stock. Not sure why. Maybe philips just no longer can make this bulb for under $10 USA. Or maybe something to do with european markets? So, got to get a replacement. Ok, not a big deal, as far as the measurements align properly. Wish me luck, please.Honest reviews on Sylvania 14500 - 50PAR20/HAL/SPL/NSP10 - 50 Watt PAR20 Halogen
Unlike flood bulbs, these spot bulbs concentrate most of their light in a narrow 10-degree 'spot' ...but still have some light outside of the central area. The central area is very bright and crisp...like sunlight indoors. It's perfect for recessed or track lighting, highlighting an artwork, or above a sink or laundry area if you want a dramatic effect. If you find the light is too concentrated, Sylvania makes some similarly good 50 watt PAR20 'flood' bulbs...which are similar in overall light output (lumens) but the light is spread over a wider angle...which might be better for general use. And they are easier to find. Spot or flood, what a wonderful light this is...no CFL bulb can come close the quality of light.
