Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I've been buying LED lights for a couple of years now. I usually buy Philips 409904/423343 BC12A19/AMB/2700-800 DIM Dimmable LED 12.5 Watt Light Bulb -Lasts 22.8 Years which is about half the price of this unit. I'm mostly comparing these two. Both are 800 lumen light bulbs. The GE lasts 13.7 years at 3 hours a day, and the Philips supposedly lasts 22.8 years at 3 hours per day.

I've also bought Sylvania "can" style lights Sylvania 70654 LED/625/RT6/827/FL80/WRFL/WTR Flood LED Light Bulb as well as some from "lights of america" Lights of America 2203LEDNP38-LF3-8 18-Watts 860-Lumen Power LED Warm White Light Bulb for Recessed and Flood Lights and a couple other generic brands. The point is I've had over a dozen different LED light bulbs and have learned what to expect. What I've found is that some of the cheaper LED light bulbs last less than a year. It really pays to buy a name brand LED light bulb.

First off, this GE branded light bulb lasts 13.7 years at 3 hours a day. I don't know about you, but if I'm going to spend the money on an LED lightbulb I put it in a high-use area. If these lightbulbs last as many hours as GE claims, I'll be lucky to have them last 5 years at my house. This is because they will run 6 to 8 hours a day.

This lightbulb has a big plus: It looks like a regular lightbulb. You can put this LED bulb in a ceiling fan or in an upside down sconce and it looks nice. Unlike CFL spiral bulbs. The Philips bulb listed above looks funky if you use it in a ceiling fan.

I think this GE bulb has the same color as an incandescent or a CFL, but my wife believes it has a slight yellow cast to it. But, its definitely good enough. Some of the "lights of america" bulbs I've bought have a harsh white cast to them, and the GE is definitely much better than most LED bulbs.

And I am very happy that it has no mercury in it like a CFL (this is true for all LED bulbs). I've got a box of burn out CFLs and I'm trying to find a proper disposal place. Ok, I'm not trying very hard, but, the box just sits in the garage. One day I'll throw the old burnt out CFLs away. I would much rather have LED than CFL, and I'm willing to pay for it.

There is a bit of a strange thing though... there is a large circular dull area at the top of the bulb which you can see easily when its lit. I doubt anyone would notice this except the owner, but, its worth mentioning.

Of course, the real test of these bulbs is if they last 5 years. Nobody wants to spend the extra money for an LED bulb that doesn't last. I wrote the date on the bulb with a sharpie and when it dies I'll update my review. If its a good bulb, it will last until the year 2020. So don't hold your breath.

By the way, I do recommend that you write the month and year on every LED lightbulb you buy, with a sharpie marker. When they die, you can backtrack to see if they last as many hours as claimed.

The main positive of this GE LED bulb that it is a very natural looking bulb with good color.

The main negative is that it costs double the price of the philips mentioned above at the time that I wrote this. I hope that changes over time.

But, if you have to have a light bulb that looks "normal" then I suppose this GE branded bulb is the winner.

Please look at the warranty information from GE. You must have the UPC and the original sales receipt to claim a warranty. LEDs do go out. I have had them for years. I been buying from Hong Kong. In addition, you can get dirty power from your power company. This is from Spikes and Surges. So look at the warranty purchased this particular bulb from Sam's Club, love Amazon, but it $18.98.

They come in individual boxes.

The light comes out of the top portion of the bulb.

Pros:

Fits a standard socket.

Long life (15000 hours).

Dimmable. I've bought fluorescent bulbs that were supposed to be dimmable but flickered badly. This bulb you can dim to almost no light and it keeps steady without any flickering.

Great for hard to reach places that you don't want to change a light bulb that often (like a high ceiling or outdoor sconce.

Con:

Heavy. This bulb feels like it weighs 5 times more than a regular bulb. When I put it into a ceiling fixture it made the socket droop down a little (the bulbs went in sideways). I wouldn't recommend it if the bulbs have to hang sideways or upside down unless the base is secure and can hold the extra weight.

Price. They are more expensive but last longer and can dim. HOpefully they will drop in price as LED lights become more common.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This light bulb is pretty heavy. It sags a little in my fixture, which worried me, but it holds up just fine. The light comes on instantly at full intensity, unlike the compact fluorescent eco-friendly bulbs I've tried which take a few minutes to "warm up." It's bright, has a nice pleasant white color, what more is there to say? I'll let you know in 13 years if the longevity claims hold up. I'll definitely be trying out the candelabra versions, since most of the lights in my house are on ceiling fans.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The bulb fits into a regular socket, and is dimmable. I did not try to dim it. However, I was pleasently surprised as to how much light it gives, and how little energy it takes.

I compared it with an incandescent 100 watt bulb. As you can see, the LED is by far more efficient. This information on each bulb was taken from their containers.

The LED is heavier than the incandescent and spiral bulbs. For reading, I'd probably want at least 2 bulbs in the lamp. However,I put this in a kitchen ceiling one bulb fixture, and it gave me enough light to work by.

I recommend it.
