The advertised application for the GE Automatic Security Light Kit #56765 is perfect for many small security systems and spot security applications but the functional application is much different. When I tested this product, I found the functional ranges to be far less sensitive than advertised.

Instead of a 50-foot range of IR sensitivity, I found it to be effective to 20 feet in the best-case scenario indoors. Another disappointment was the range of the wireless signal. Instead of the advertised at 150 foot radio range I found it struggling to keep contact at 40 feet with a clear line of sight to the receiver. Any material including paper and cardboard adversely affected the signal.

Another point where I found discrepancies is the indoor / outdoor installation ability. The advertising stated this product could be used indoors and outdoors. It is not sealed to weather and when outdoors the range drops to 5 feet for IR sensing and 15 feet for wireless. As an alternative, when I attempted to use the IR sensing function through window glass it was not a functional at all.

Now the good news... Within the limited ranges of 10 feet for IR sensing and 25 feet wireless, indoors this product works flawlessly. It is perfect to turn lights on when someone enters a room or for a display project. I would suggest a variable cycle time on the product from 10 minutes down to 5 and possibly 1 minute.

In closing, I have used GE security products for some time and am familiar with their abilities. The specifications for this product led me to expect the same level of functionality I have come to expect from GE in the past. I was disappointed with the functionality and real capabilities of this product and suggest you only use if for carefully selected projects.

Tried two different batteries and the sensor never worked. Poor quality GE should be ashamed to put its brand name on this product.

This is the 2nd one I get; the first receiver broke after accidentally it fell from a height of about 2 feet, and stopped turning off after that.

I don't find how to make it work for 10 minutes like it says in the specifications; mine works for about one minute only and then goes off; I feel the sensor kind of lazy if compared to others like Mace and Driveway patrol. If you use it in a dark room and you don't move a lot you'll be in the dark after a minute and have to wave your hands in front of it to make it trigger the receiver. Why the designer didn't put the shut off circuit inside the receiver?... go and find out; the sensor wastes time sending the shut down signal to the receiver instead of being sensing any new movements. But is the only thing that I found that you can plug to connect almost any device including saving fluorescent lamps.
