(#1 REVIEWER)
I'll start by saying that the Amazon description contains a minor mistake, this bulb is 10W according to the box it came in not 9W. This is a very minor difference and I am including cost savings for 10W and 9W in the review for comparison. I notified the seller of this error.
When I shop for LED bulbs the amount of choices is dizzying. When I can't see them turned on side by side I am never quite sure what they will look like when I get home this is because manufactures do not have a standard of how they specify what their light is equivalent to.
In this review I am comparing two Lighting EVER LED lights using the EFI lumen equivalents from efi.org rather than manufacturer's numbers. I am also including side-by-side photos of the light produced by these 2 LED lights as well as the light produced by a 60W incandescent bulb.
Visual comparison of the LED lights
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To illustrate this review I am attaching a slide show of photos.
✔ The first photo shows the light produced by each of the two bulbs on the left and the light produced by 60 watt incandescent bulb on the right. You can see the lights produced by all lights are very similar.
✔ The set of photos shows the LED light from different angles on gridded mat for size reference as well as on a digital scale to show the bulb weight. The length of this BR30 spotlight is 4" excluding the base (by comparison 60W incandescent light is 3.25" excluding the base). The base itself is 7/8" in both cases.
✔ The lens of both lights is frosted, and the direction of the light is omnidirectional.
Lighting EVER® iLUX Dimmable 10W A19 LED Bulb
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3000K
820 lumen
Omnidirectional
Length 3.5" excluding the base
Replaces 55 Watt incandescent (equivalent value from efi.org)
Indoor use only
Annual cost savings compared to 55Watt incandescent $19.00 $3.46 = $15.54 (calculations explained below)
Annual cost savings compared to 60Watt incandescent $20.74 $3.46 = $17.28
Lighting EVER® iLUX Dimmable 9W BR30 LED Spotlight (which should have been named 10W)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3000K
800 lumen
Omnidirectional
Length 4" excluding the base
Replaces 54 Watt incandescent (equivalent value from efi.org)
Indoor use only
Annual cost savings of 9W compared to 54Watt incandescent $18.66 $3.11 = $15.55 (calculations explained below)
Annual cost savings of 9W compared to 60Watt incandescent $20.74 $3.11 = $17.63
Annual cost savings of 10W compared to 55Watt incandescent $19.00 $3.46 = $15.54
Annual cost savings of 10W compared to 60Watt incandescent $20.74 $3.46 = $17.28
How I calculated incandescent equivalent
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In my description above I am using efi.org lumen equivalents to calculate the power of the incandescent light this LED light replaces rather than the information provided by the manufacture (manufacture's numbers are higher). I believe EFI numbers are more accurate in giving a consumer an idea of the brightness they will get.
EFI standards are:
75 watts is 1100 lumens
60 watts is 890 lumens
How I calculated cost savings
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When we use 1000 watts for 1 hour we used a kilowatt-hour.
The formula to figure the cost of running a device:
wattage x hours used ÷ 1000 x price per kWh = cost of electricity
Assuming usage of one light bulb 8 hours a day each day for 1 year and the cost of electricity 0.12 cents per kwh
60w Incandescent bulb ~~~ $1.73 per month, $20.74 per year
55w Incandescent bulb ~~~ $1.58 per month, $19 per year
54w Incandescent bulb ~~~ $1.55 per month, $18.66 per year
10w LED bulb ~~~~~~~~~~~~ $0.29 per month, $3.46 per year
9w LED bulb ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ $0.26 per month, $3.11 per year
Manufacture of these lights asked me as one of the reviewers who have a history of writing informative reviews to test these lights and post my opinion about them to make it easier for future potential customers make their buying decisions.
Overall, both bulbs are well made. They worked well, their finish is neat, they did not rattle when I shook them, there are no visible sloppy soldering as I have seen on some other LED lights. I am quite impressed with these bulbs, in particular how well the omnidirectional aspect works. These bulbs are a very good replacements for 60W incandescent lights.
I only bought two, but both work great. They say they are the equivalent of 60W, but I would believe 80W. The light is warm not harsh. If they make any noise at all, I sure can't hear it.I bought several basic form factor bulbs from this company before that continue to work great. I also tried their previous attempt at BR30 form factor that quickly stopped working. They vendor (Neon Mart) quickly refunded cost. So I am glad these are now available from people that stand behind what they sell.
