It's a white bulb with a yellow tinted plastic cover. I somehow ended up with more bugs than before when I was using a standard soft white incandescent bulb. I hear the florescent that are actually yellow work much better, so I'd suggest going that route. This is a total waste of money.

What I love about these bulbs is that they are fully enclosed, so they can be used in an outdoor setting where they may be exposed to moisture. If an unsealed bulb is installed in an outdoor fixture where it is exposed to moisture, it does not last very long. I have security lights at the end of my driveway and the light fixtures are not waterproof. When I was using standard 40 watt bulbs, I was having to replace the bulbs every 3 months. Quite a hassle, not to mention the expense. I finally found these energy efficient, sealed bulbs. The first set I bought were rated for 10 years. One of them lasted 12 years, the other is still going strong. I recently purchased two of these GE 49895 bulbs and replaced the burned out security light bulb with one of them. The light level is perfect, neither too bright nor too dim. These bulbs are rated for a 4 year life span. I don't yet know how accurate that rating is, but am happy with the bulb so far. I highly recommend these bulbs for those who want an amber light in an outdoor fixture.Best Deals for GE Lighting 49895 Energy Smart CFL Bug Light 14-Watt (60-watt
As noted previously, just a yellow-ish plastic cap. I'm still noticing bugs enjoying this light rather than being deterred. The light comming off this bulb is still pretty close to white when it is on. I'm planning on returning and getting some better ones.Honest reviews on GE Lighting 49895 Energy Smart CFL Bug Light 14-Watt (60-watt
It works, but doesn't eliminate the bugs entirely. We have kids so we needed at the door.
It reduces the amount of bugs that are attracted to lights.
