I have a tri-level house so I mounted one under each end of the banisters for each level. Now when anyone in my family uses the stairs at night they don't have to turn on the lights or stumble on the stairs. Light is enough to light the landings but won't burn out your eyeballs at night if you have to use them right after waking up. Would recommend these lights to anyone concerned about safety.

Well, it only lasts about a year. This is just not enough time. It should last about 3-5 years depending on the climate (I am in mild but seasonal mid-atlantic U.S.).The problem with all these small battery or solar lights is water sealing. For want of a decent rubber gasket, water will and DOES find a way in to these things. I think water got into the motions sensor and that pretty much did it in.
My original review here was positive. It's one of those products that is a great idea but has that one fatal flaw which could have been avoided so easily if the designers had just paid attention.

Bought this item based upon the other reviews I read. It's just as described and very bright and functional. I'm using it in the garage to turn on automatically as the side door from outside opens to provide adequate lighting for walking, accessing the clothes dryer, and getting items from the pantry. The batteries keep the lights very bright for 5-6 months with daily use, multiple times per day.Honest reviews on Megabrite Wireless Motion Sensor Door/Entry Light with 3 AA
I too got one of these at Costco, and mounted it back by my garbage area. My son has to take out the trash and hated doing it at night because it was so dark. This does the trick... as soon as he gets near, light turns on...and stays on for about 30 seconds... long enough to do the job.Well.. I had it for six months.. but hadn't realized the motion detection had stopped working.. which it did. Got another couple of them.. they were both awful after a couple months. I do not recommend.

I liked this light enough to go back to Costco and buy another. I have had no problems with its operation. I suspect that the negative review results from the fact that there is a delay time before the light turns on, when the unit has been previously illuminated. Thus, when you install it (and to do so you have the unit illuminated) and then turn off the external light the unit will not immediately detect motion and turn on. You have to wait a minute or so in darkness, or very low light, before it will activate. However, I do not see this as a problem for actual operation. The 8 LED light give ample light for a doorway or for a larger area when the lamps are positioned flat against the wall, instead of pointing down over the doorway.I measured the sensitivity and found that when approaching head on the light illuminated at 22 feet, which is only slightly less than the advertised 25 feet. However, the sensitivity was considerably less, only about 10 feet, when approaching from the side.
I bought this unit at Costco, but like most of their products they are not kept in stock, so it is nice to see that I can get another through Amazon should I desire a third.
