This fixture is hard to find in the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. The fixture is great compared to others because it incorporates an electronic ballast that starts the lamp instantly and runs silently. The lamps last a very long time as compared to other fixtures. Since the lamps are very expensive, that is very important to me.

Bought as a replacement for older style flourescent fixture. Swap out was straightforward except for the original was installed with the wires about 1/2 way between the center knockout and the end knockout, and they were not long enough to reach the wiring in the new fixture. So I had to drill a new "knockout" to connect. I wasn't use to seeing the internal wiring so short in this type of fixture.

I replaced a similar light under my cabinet with this GE unit. The electronic ballast is much better than the old style I had. The light comes on instantly and makes no noise at all. You can buy cheaper lights, but I didn't see anyone make similar claims about those. Amazon had the exact same price as my local Home Depot, and with Amazon Prime (and my general disdain for shopping at Home Depot unless necessary) it was actually cheaper (no tax, no shipping).

I noticed some people complain that the wires were too short and they had to extend them. While I don't think that's a huge problem, I didn't notice it. I didn't have 10 inches of slack like some lights, but there was enough to connect it. I also saw complaints about the knockout being on the side, or someplace where someone couldn't use it. Look the knockouts on stuff like this are never in the right place for everyone. And they suck anyway, they really aren't easy to pop out cleanly you really should just plan on drilling your own. I've never bought a replacement fluorescent light that had the knockout where the old one did. The light comes with a nice metal grommet for the hole you make. Set your expectations correctly and you won't be disappointed just plan on drilling.

It has a switch, too, which is nice if you don't have a wall switch, I guess. And a bulb (tube, whatever) comes with it. Hey don't laugh the bulbs cost half as much as the light sometimes.

Bottom line it's a simple light, but not embarrassingly cheap looking. Quiet, quick, bright, and worth the extra $12 over the generic builder quality lights that hum. It's not a halogen light, it's not an LED light, or a fancy puck light. It's just a low profile unit that works well, is made just a bit better than the ones for $17 and doesn't get hot, doesn't hum, and just plain works well.

I have high end hickory cabinets, and this replaced a halogen type under cabinet light positioned over the sink. I leave this light on all the time as a nite lite / security light. I was tired of replacing one of the 4 halogen bulbs almost monthly at a cost of over $4 each... not to mention the higher wattage for the same light. I actually did see this GE light at HD, but the Amazon price is better! This is a hard wired fixture, and also has a rocker switch on the light. I control it with the wall switch. I was worried that this would look plastic and cheap, and be a little thick for my application..... no worries!!! It gives the perfect amount of light, perhaps a bit on the bright side, and looks professional and simply elegant. I also drilled a new hole to route the wiring to meet my existing installation. It was easy with a step drill, and I made the hole size to fit a snap in guide that protects the wires from the sharp metal. Opening the box to flipping the switch on the installed light took less than 1/2 hour.

I just installed this light in my kitchen, and it was easy to install and works very well. The 13 watt T5 bulb came on instantly with no hum. It produces a soft light that is energy efficient and it is perfect as a countertop light. The quality appears to be excellent. I think I'll get several more.
