I have wasted money buying many other LED headlamps, starting with those little LED that looks good on the package but in the middle of darkness, it will let you down. (finding yourself returning it the next afternoon). Not this Rayovac headlamp, you don't need to have 20 little LEDs on your head, you just need one that lights up half of your backyard. I gave one to a friend who spent a few months in Africa and she said it worked just fine. It is best using rechargeable batteries, and the battery compartment can be a little tight for some rechargeable. (works fine with Sanyo's Eneloop rechargeable batteries). It has 3 settings for the headlamp brightness, from the highest (for walking, or biking) or lowest (reading a book at night), or you can have it blinking, the back of the battery compartment has a nice little red LED which can be set to stay on or blinking. Good for biking or even camping at night (so you can see where your partner is). If you're going to spend time far away from fresh batteries, buy a "AA Battery Solar Panel Charger" from Powerfilm to charge your AA batteries during the day so you won't be in the dark at night. My friend & I use ours to paint her rental property's fence. The weather was too hot to paint during the day (105F+), we were able to paint the whole fence in comfort. Buy one of this for your home, and another one for your car, you will be glad you did.

I grabbed this little guy at Kmart last summer when I realized I forgot my headlamp for a backpacking trip. Rather than being something cheap and disposable as I thought it would be, it is now part of my essential gear. At 100% and 80 lumens you have all the light you'll need in most any situation. The 50% feature is nice too for obvious reasons. I also like the little red light on the back, which makes it great for biking in a pinch, or hiking at night it provides that much more visibility for the person behind you.
You can pay a lot more for a headlamp of lesser quality, but this one is a bargain and holds up well.

We use this light daily really twice daily on our farm. It's the best and we've tried lots. It is very bright and extremely durable. Also there is a great guarantee on it totally amazing ! We received the first one as a gift but we had to have a second one because they are so good.

Works great. Bright at 105 lumens (for the new model). Slap a piece of industrial velcro to the back of the light and another one to the back of the battery pack after having removed the elastic head straps and you have a super bright mountain bike or commuting light for less than $35.
The cable will be the perfect lenght on a helmet to have the battery pack velcro'd to the back of your helmet. Remember to clean the surface with some rubbing alcohol before placing the adhesive of your industrial velcro on the helmet or the light.
Ok, it's not super light nor does it have a great battery life (between 15 and 20 hours of use on the brightest setting) but it is bright, adjustable (vertically) and it will serve you well during those night rides in the winter!
It's probably not waterproof but I have used it countless times under the rain. It still works fine.

As another reviewer mentioned, I bought this headlight at Costco for half the Amazon price a few years ago. This light has been outstanding, and I highly recommend it. Quite bright and very handy when you need to work with your hands in the dark. I've used it around the house at night many times but recently used it to work in the attic of a house where I spend several weeks doing a lot of electrical rewiring work. This light never failed me and despite the plastic housing, took much abuse and never cracked (even after it was dropped onto a ceramic tile floor). During this time of extended us, I only used up one set of batteries. What I found very important with this design is having the battery pack mounted on the backside of the head. This provided a very good counter balance to the headlamp so the lighting system was very stable on my head despite all the crawling around in the attic. I wonder if other headlights with all the weight up front (headlight plus batteries) would creep down into the eyes when moving around. My only real issue with this light was regarding the elastic straps that lost its tightness like a worn out bungee cord. Rayovac may have addressed this issue because some of their other Rayovac headlights I've seen advertised lately use a silicone impregnated strap that seems more durable and wicks the sweat away. However, I'm not sure if this headlight has this improved strap. Maybe another very minor issue is with the beam width that could be a bit wider. Of course, the best solution would be to have an beam width adjuster but then the price would increase and the the durability may not be as good. Overall, I'm very pleased and would definitely buy another Rayovac headlight without hesitation based on my experience with this light.
