Pros:
Comfort head-strap with easy adjustment, positive adjustment vertical, battery compartment design, light switch design, power settings from minimum to maximum, Cost factor of inexpensive, positive clicks on power meter for adjusting beam strength, Long battery life.
Cons: No Red light at low power settings or snap on lens, nothing else negative.
I've used energizers, petzl headlamps, and many others so I was skeptical to try these out.
I was wrong, I now have 3-4 of them. One in every vehicle, and backpacking / hunting / fishing use. They are great for running at night / trail running.
I also like to use these in gun cleaning / small electronic soldering / precision work. These models from Coleman are great.

I got mine from WalMart for $20. For a Cree X-lamp XP-C LED rated at 75 lumens (FL1 rating) that's not bad at all. The light runs on three AAA batteries, and includes three Duracell alkalines. You can also use NiMH or lithium cells. Output is pretty good; 75 lumens on high, 43 lumens on medium, and 15 lumens on low. The modes are adjusted with a dial on the right-hand side. In the reviews, there are a few complaints about the battery door. I found it very easy to take off, requiring a simple unscrewing with my fingers. There is also a small protrusion on the headband adjuster; this says KEY and will fit into the small groove on the battery door, acting as a screwdriver if you need it. The headband fits nicely, and can be adjusted for almost any size head. It's not for helmet use though. The light can be adjusted downward, but not sideways or up. This is fine with me. The ratcheting system holds the light's position where you want it; it's nice and strong. The beam is white with no artifacts, but it does have two halos in it, no matter what mode you're in. In reality, this only appears on white walls and is unnoticeable in everyday use. The beam is about 60% throw and 40% flood; a good balance. This would be a nice headlight to use on a trail.
For a twenty, this is a good headlight. It's nice to see Coleman using ANSI ratings instead of over-exaggerated claims.

Currently, Coleman has about three versions of the 'Axis' series. This is the lowest price one and, frankly, is better than the more expensive ones. The others are brighter, but the light has that damn yellowish tint which I can't stand. This one, although not as bright, is much more pure white. That, alone, makes it better than the others.FWIW, the most expensive Coleman Axis headlamp also has red and blue lights. So, if you need those color lights (and don't mind the main light being yellow), well, that's the one to get.
But, for me, this one is the best.
Honest reviews on Coleman 2000012915 High Powered Led Headlamp Lanterns
I see a bunch of endorsements out there for the Energizer LED headlamps (in some form or another for all 800 variations of them). The first thing that I think separates this lamp from the Energizer one is the headband. It's thick and soft, making the lamp "forgettable." I don't feel it moving when I have to move my head quickly.
The second thing I really like about this lamp is that it has several modes to conserve light. I really only use low and high, but there is a medium mode as well. On high, the lamp will last 11 hours on 3 AAA batteries. But on low, where I do most of my work, it will last a whopping 55 hours. However, I really do appreciate the 75 lumens this thing puts out. It really came in handy when I got into camp at night and didn't have daylight time to collect firewood. Having a greater range means less poking around.
As for water resistance, the first night out in this thing brought a TON of rain, and it held up nicely. The battery compartment does have rubber seals, so I believe the manufacturers meant for it to be able to withstand some water exposure.
Finally, the profile is good. At first, I thought it'd stick out a bit too far (width is about 1.5" at its thickest point), but I don't notice the bulk at all.
I would love to see this light with a red LED setting. Other than that, though, great LED headlamp

This is a great LED headlamp. The three Cree LEDs are very bright and the strap is elastic and comfortable to wear. Placing the strap in the lamp is not very hard, but adjusting the length is difficult unless you remove it from your head first. To put the batteries (3 AAAs), there is a twist opening on the side (opposite the Axis name). It is marked battery so you know which side it is. There are 2 light levels, 1 press high, 2nd press low, 3rd press off.You can tilt it up and down, but you can not position it side to side. The tilt angle is a bit limited, I wanted to position the lamp more down but it cannot move as far as I want it to. Once you adjust the angle, it stays there unless you move it again.
