I bought these to replace two very old and rusted square metal trim pieces in my downstairs ceiling. Apparently, square recessed lighting is now outdated (the Home Depot near me didn't carry anything square lighting related), but rather than pay for new round can lighting and have to repair and re-cut new holes in my dry wall ceiling, I opted for the easier aesthetic fix of just replacing the square trim that's already up there with these.

I was a little worried they wouldn't fit as these are not the same brand as the old housing I have up, but the measurements were the same and much to my delight when they arrived, they fit perfectly into the slots of my old housing.

The outer trim is metal painted white but looks nice compared to what I had up previously. The square glass lens was not clear, but rather had a white coating of paint on the underside to dilute the light so keep that in mind when getting these if you're expecting clear glass. I was skeptical how that would affect the lighting of my downstairs, but with a new 60 watt energy saving (bright white) bulb in each fixture, they provided plenty of light in the room.

My only complaint would be that they are a little pricey at around $18 for what I paid for them considering they are just the metal trim with a glass lens. But it was certainly cheaper and easier than putting up all new lights.

I have 4 square ceiling lights that work fine but the frames and lenses were ugly. Lighting stores told me that the entire fixtures would have to be replaced. I glad I found these! These fit perfectly and look great!

I bought this to replace the aluminum version mistakenly thrown out by my contractor. It looks very nice against a white ceiling and I am thinking of replacing the two remaining aluminum ones with this one, for conformity but also because the white against white looks very nice.

Note that this is just the trim. You have to buy the housing for the light separately.

Would recommend.

Honest reviews on Halo 10P Square Trim with Frosted-Glass Albalite Lens, Satin White

The trim on my recessed lights needed some updating. These fit fine, and were easy to install. The issue I had with them is that the glass they use dims the light output when compared to the older Halo trim that was there. To remedy, I had to buy some of those super bright CFL daylight bulbs. With a regular bulb, the glass defuses too much of the light. It is what it is, I guess.

We have two of these square, recessed lights in our 1978 home. Like other reviews stated, updating these to today's round recessed lights would be a more significant undertaking so I decided to take a chance on these. My only concern was whether the mechanism that holds them in place was the same as the original as I could not find this information anywhere. It turns out the mechanism -clothes hangar grade metal "hooks" from a spring hinge on two sides of the device -was the exact same as the original so the swap out took just minutes. The white trim looks much butter than the dated gold trim although I would have preferred a brushed nickel finish. While the frosted lens does diffuse a fair amount of the light, it's no worse than the original which had yellowed over the years as well. Overall, I am very happy and would strongly recommend these.
