Purchased at despotic brick and mortar location. Died after about three months installed in kitchen. Used approximately four hours per day, turned on and off maybe six times per day, rarely dimmed. The bulb dimmed adequately, though neither as smoothly nor completely as incandescents. Light color was cool/white, which was expected, but not particularly pleasant. I have two other LED bulbs from another manufacturer, non-dimmable, that are still going fine in the same setting. Justifies continued skepticism over LED longevity claims, IMHO.

I love these bulbs! Perfect brightness and color match to my incandescents. Instant on and dim perfectly.

Other than the cost, which is still ridiculous for a light bulb, the only downside is the black heatsink. It would be nice if it was white so it looked more like a traditional bult in fixtures with transparent sides.

Trying to switch from the warm, cozy glow of regular light bulbs to an energy efficient light bulb shouldn't be too difficult since there are so many options out there. And the long term savings are well worth it. But my wife is very opinionated when it comes to lights in the home having a certain look and appeal. The fluorescent bulbs are "ugly" and don't even get a chance. The LED bulbs are showing a lot of promise, so I've been trying different ones here and there. This is the first bulb that has "passed" the wife test and is now lighting a good portion of the kitchen. It comes very close to having that "warm" incandescent glow that is so important in different settings... and it looks a lot like a regular bulb as well. Others have already written about LED bulbs in general so I'm not going to cover any old ground. My suggestion when trying different bulbs is... keep track where you got the bulb so you can get more (I keep 1 old box with all the information on/in the box), and, once you find one you like, get as many as you can afford. We found a nice bulb that my wife liked and suddenly you can't find that bulb any more! No, not even on AMAZON.COM!

Honest reviews on Philips 409938 8-Watt A19 LED Household Light Bulb, Dimmable

Have several of these in my home since about two years. Have had no issues with those used in non-dimmer mode only, but 6 of the bulbs I was using regularly with a dimmer suddenly didn't want to be bright any more they could only put out a fraction of their initial light (even if moved to a non-dimmer switch) i.e. became unusable. I guess this might have been caused by the old style dimmer I have, so you should definitely make sure you have dimmers explicitly compatible with these lamps before dimming them.

I bought two of these from Home Depot, installed in identical bedroom lamps with both lamps plugged into the same dimmer control. I dim these lights nightly and it worked well at first.

Six months later and both bulbs have developed a sort of memory effect. They remain at the "dimmed" level I use in the evenings. Both bulbs are affected to the same degree. And the effect persists even after I moved the bulbs to different lamps that have no dimmer mode.

I love LED bulbs and these are a breakthrough product. Just be aware that they won't hold up to any sort of extensive use in dimmed mode.
