This is beautiful lamp that had to be returned because the music stand on our baby grand piano could not support the weight of the lamp on it. This could be because our piano dates to 1926. Something others should be aware of in order to avoid the hassle and expense of returns.

I've been a full-time professional musician for 22 years. I state this just to make it clear that: 1) I practice many hours a day, every day; 2) I obviously need top quality stand lights; 3) I've seen them all.For over a decade, I've had this lamp on my home practice/teaching instrument (Yamaha C7); I bring this light and spare bulbs to many gigs--especially every time I play the harpsichord in an opera. In the twelve years I've owned this light, I've never encountered a better one so I have at long last seen fit write a review.
Simply put: The quality of this lamp is outstanding. Two important usage tips plus relevant links:
1) The bulbs provided are lame--use clear Xenon bulbs instead--they're the only kind which are bright enough and white enough for serious use. Don't skimp on bulbs--your eyes will burn from the strain of reading under the light emitted by low Color Recognition Index bulbs. LED and fluorescent have abysmal CRI performance compared to Xenon. Don't use either for intense, long session reading.

2) Plug the lamp into an inline dimmer and never use the on/off switch again. *Bulbs which are dimmed on and off last many times longer.* Dim all your incandescent bulbs and enjoy the huge improvement in bulb life. Also, these Xenons are so white and so bright that one can run them lower than 100% power which further preserves bulb life.

Well made.Excellent light pattern.
The dimensional design could be improved in that those bulbs get mighty hot and require replacing once or twice a year and that's the rub!
The enclosure surrounding the bulbs leaves little room to get your fingers around a bulb for removal.
Another 1/4 to 1/2 inch open space would make it so much easier.
Oh well
Life is far from perfect, but the product is made well.
