I ordered this after looking for quite a while for a brighter task work light. I wanted a bulb for a small, cheaper lamp but wasn't finding it. This was a fabulous, even better replacement idea. It is bright, compact, adjustable, and just plain out looks really cool. It gives a fair amount of bright LED light for a small lamp. It is perfect for my friend's carving hobby, and it is an amazingly convenient lamp to use, with a red circle near the base that works as a touch switch. I couldn't be happier with this lamp, and am trying to find someone else who would appreciate a good, bright, convenient, adjustable task lamp. Giving it as a gift really makes me look good! The ONLY thing that could make it any better would be a dimmer...but maybe that would drastically increase the cost. In any case, this is a nice quality and versatile task light that I expect will be around for many years.

Update: About 8 months in, with daily use for many hours a day, several of the LED lights are flickering and then burning out. This is annoying, but I still love this lamp. I wish that the individual LED light bulbs could be replaced.

This attractive LED lamp puts out enough light to add cheerful supplemental illumination to our small breakfast table from its perch on a shelf above, with the gooseneck bent down to put the head below eye level. It might be too small for most computer desks, though.

Light color: The light is white, maybe a bit too blue for some people's taste, but I prefer it to the orange light of medium-wattage incandescents and "warm white" CFLs or LEDs.

Design: The lamp is well made, primarily from machined aluminum, for a clean, modern look.

On-off switch: The touch-sensitive switch at the base of the gooseneck means no cheesy-looking button or switch to fumble for, and no moving parts to make a sound or wear out. I find that switches are often the first thing to go on lamps and other electrical items; that presumably won't happen with this lamp. When the light is off, two red rings glow to indicate where the touch-sensitve area is. The red glow is fairly bright, and might be distracting in some settings.

Glare problem: The head is a stylishly thin disk with an array of LEDs on the underside that put out a lot of light. This thin design looks sleek, but it means that the LEDs protrude slightly. If you look at the head edge-on, you are looking directly at the sides of the very bright LEDs, which you can't tolerate for more than a moment. This limits the ways you can position the lamp; the head has to be pointing at least slightly away from everyone's face. This is not much of problem if only one person will be able to see the lamp, but can get tricky if someone else is nearby. Most non-LED lamp designs shade the bright bulb from view from the side, but for some reason many LED lamps suffer from this glare problem. As far as I can tell, it is a purely physical design issue having to do with how little the LEDs are recessed into a housing. It may be that designers of relatively new and expensive LED lamps tend to be are more concerned with modern aesthetics than with basic usability, or they don't have much experience designing light fixtures.

Quality control problems: I had to return the first of these lamps that I bought because some electrical problem caused the LED rings to flicker on, off, and through different levels of brightness in a seemingly random, extremely distracting and irritating way. I liked the design and light output so much that I ordered another as a replacement. It functions fine, but had some cosmetic damage to the base that (thanks to its being simply machined aluminum) I could partially remedy with fine steel wool and a lot of elbow grease. It looks good enough now that I kept it and have been using it for months, but it is not as physically sharp looking as the first one. Fortunately, Amazon's return policy is so painless and cost-free that I can still recommend this lamp.

Conclusion: I like this lamp a lot, and recommend it for small task lighting, or for supplemental lighting such as our small breakfast table in a kitchen with a ceiling light. It might work on a small desk, especially one without a computer monitor on it, but I wanted more light, height, and a longer reach for my large computer desk. Think twice before ordering if you are unwilling to risk having to return it due to quality control problems. For that reason, I would not suggest having this lamp delivered as a gift. But once you get a good one, it is a great little lamp.

I came across this while searching for an LED light to replace our old incandescent high intensity light.

The pros:

+ Free shipping, when I bought mine.

+ This lamp has a very nice shiny modern look.

+ It has a wide base to prevent the lamp from tipping over.

+ The LED array puts out a bright cool white light.

+ To turn on/off the light, you touch the area near the glowing red ring, located where the flexible neck attaches to the base.

The cons:

It's expensive.

This lamp puts out a very "bright" white light (not warm white), much too bright for us & it can't be dimmed.

The flexible neck is too short... looked longer on the picture. It doesn't extend out very far & doesn't want to say where it's positioned.

This may specific to my purchase, but the lamp had damage on the base in 2 places (looks like it had been dropped) & the lamp head had scratches on it. Looks like a repackaged or refurbished item?

It's back in the box now, scheduled to be picked up tomorrow by UPS. :(

Honest reviews on Newer Technology NuGreen Flexible Neck LED Desk Lamp

I shopped widely for a bedside table reading lamp. I wanted decent design, good quality materials, bright light, easily reached switch, heavy-enough base to not tip, adjustable light source, and relatively focused beam. I leaned toward LED's for their brightness, absence of heat, good energy results and all-around coolness (pun intended). I visited numerous lighting stores and pored over customer reviews on Amazon.

This Newer Technology NuGreen fit the bill perfectly. I've had it for a few weeks now, and it has been a delight (more puns, I know). Everything I wanted in a bedside light is here, and my spouse and other family members are impressed with its looks and operation. The base is heavy but relatively small (I'd guess 5 inch diameter); the neck is long enough (around a foot) to be manipulated to any angle I want and not tip, and the fact that this lamp remains cool to the touch and throws no heat with its light is great. The "switch" is really not a switch: it is the entire bottom of the lamp's neck, consisting of a touch-ring around the base of the neck that means there's no searching for the switch and no fear of burning yourself on a hot metal surface.

Recommended without hesitation.
