I purchased these knowing the motion detection was for close range less than 12 inches. I'm using these under cabinets in my breakfast room. I like that I can easily install these on my own without committing to having an electrician, additional wiring when I wasn't fully committed to under cabinet lighting throughout the kitchen/breakfast room.
The package notes this is ideal for pantry, utility room, closet, or under cabinets which is very true. It's for indoor use only. I like the option to have the light function on AUTO, and/or turn it ON or OFF. Each light does require 3 AA batteries (not included). If the best type batteries to maximize it's capabilty had been provided I would have given it FIVE STARS. These days a battery is not a battery because there's heavy duty, alkaline, long lasting, branded, generic, etc ...
The package carries the GE trademark but it licensed to another company and produced in China.
