I had high hopes for these bulbs, especially with the CREE branding. I bought these fully aware that they were a tad longer than a standard GU10 base halogens. That's a minor issue compared to the utterly false details provided.

According to the specs:

"1 pcs New Product! Dimmable Gu10 CREE 9W High power GU10 LED lamp with GU10 base & Wide Flood 60 degree beam angle"

The beam angle (I actually measured it) was about 30 degrees from a foot away and around 45 from 6 feet away. I was looking for a decent FLOOD compared to other LED's that claimed 30-45 degree beam angles but this was not the case.

"Soft White color temperature 3000K ± 200 (warm white)"

Compared to my "soft white" incandescent and even CFL's, this emits a strange green hue that looked absolutely terrible on my brown/beige walls. Either way, it's certainly not close to the 3000k bulbs around the rest of my house (perhaps they're all wrong?).

High luminous intensity output: 550LM ± 10

My 50w halogens claim a 450LM output and they're brighter than these LED bulbs. Since the LED's have no reflectors, they don't flood the room in addition to the spot, so the halogen should have been outperformed in the "spot" area of 45 degrees. I tried them side by side and the halogens had a brighter "spot" around the 45 degrees than the LED filled. Not really acceptable. I'd rate these bulbs equal to a 35 watt halogen or 350LM. I don't have a meter on hand but there's certainly a difference in brightness between a 50w halogen and this, with the halogen outshining it despite the 100LM advantage claimed by the LED's.

"Higher energy efficiency bulb & Spaced Edge for Heat Sink, Cool beam (no UV or thermal radiation), Solid State Fast Turn-On"

Agreed, LED bulbs absolutely beat halogen for heat and efficiency. They also appeared to be "instant on" which is a real plus compared to many other LED's. Despite the lesser light output, these bulbs use less than 20% of the power and output approx 80% of the light of a 50 watt halogen.

Quick review:

Pros:

Saves energy

About as bright as a 35 watt halogen

Cons:

Not standard size GU10 (my globes did work but the light they cast was awkward due to the size difference)

No "flood" reflector, don't look for these so act as anything beyond wide spotlights

Color temp not even close to "bright white"/3000k

Beam angle less than advertised

In the end, if you're looking at some focused downlights/spotlights and want to stay away from the "daylight" led bulbs, these fit the bill. Just be aware that they're not a standard size, they don't meet the claimed specs for LM output or beam angle. I could see these being perfect for plenty of people though. They just don't work in my application.

I must say I've been very picky in selecting LED bulbs to replace my old incandescent ones. I have a light fixture in my kitchen which had 4 50W halogens in it and even then I thought they weren't really bright enough. I wanted to get something that was bright but also not a nasty color, and save electricity because people are always leaving the kitchen light on. I finally bought these and installed them today. They are slightly cooler in color temperature than my incandescent bulbs, but they are just as bright, and they give off a nice "high tech" looking light. They also dim nicely on a standard dimmer.

Keep in mind, as in my case, if you have a 200w fixture and you are paying 15 cents per kWh, that equals 3 cents per hour to run incandescent bulbs. With 4 of these 9W LED's (@$9.99/ea.) that brings it down to 0.54 cents per hour. If I am saving 2.46 cents per hour running 4 of these, it will take me about 1624 hours to recoup the cost of these bulbs on my electric bill. That is 406 hours PER bulb OR 17 straight days per bulb. If you use one bulb for 2 hours per day, it will take you about 203 days to recoup the cost vs. a 50w bulb. But they never burn out, right? So be patient and eventually you'll be saving money. Something like that... The cost savings is definitely in the long run, and in the meantime, you get to feel good about being "efficient."

The formula for cost per hour you can plug your own numbers into from your electric bill is (9 Watts consumed / 1000 * 0.15 cost per kWh = $0.00135 dollars per hour). Hopefully that helps put things into perspective a little but with these "energy saving" bulbs.

I have a mix of different LED spot lights in my house. For example I own these Philips 10LED bulbs: http://www.amazon.com/home-improvement/dp/B004YTLIFE

They put off at least twice the amount of light and are rated at ONLY 415lm.

It's really becoming a problem with suppliers of stuff like LED bulbs correctly labeling (stretching the truth is my guess) their wares. I strongly suggest sticking with "name brands" until quality control/honesty improves.

Honest reviews on New Product! LED CREE Gu10 Dimmable 9W Warm White Gu10 led Light

They fit well into my existing tract lighting fixture. After 1 week one bulb went out which I am in the process of returning. I have been using the bulbs for about a month and I actually do like the light the put off. Definitely whiter than the standard halogen.

Update:

I have now had 2 bulbs defective out of 7. This is likely more than a coincidence and I expect more to fail within the next few months. I will not purchase this product again.

These are bright and for light output, they are working well for replacements for Halogen and Florescent bulbs but they are not a standard length. In one fixture that has a Bezel, they do not work because they are about 0.2" longer than a "standard" Halogen. So light output and Beam Pattern I would give them a 5* but because they are not a standard Gu10 length they are not as they claim to be a direct replacement. They are just too long for some fixtures.
