We set a couple sets of these along the edge of a garden to accent it. They randomly change colors and look very nice in the dark. These units have a glass ball that is crackle glass and it creates a nice effect when lit up.
Make sure that you set them in the sun because they require 8 hours of direct sunlight to stay lit for about 6 hours. The solar panel is located in the crackle ball so the sun hits it directly for the best charging effect. If you mount these under a light that comes on at night then these will not light up as they have a light detector that senses the darkness to turn on the LED.
There is a plastic tab that insulates the battery from making contact and it keeps the lights off and saves the battery. Make sure that you remove it so the lights operate when it gets dark and leave it out for the season. My wife saved the tab and reinserts it when we store the lamps in the garage for the winter to protect the battery from freezing. There is also a switch on the lamp that lets you select to have the LED be white or randomly changing colors.
The only down side is that the pole that they mount on is pretty cheaply made and can be easy to break. I was surprised by that because the glass ball is very good quality. Just be careful setting them out and take a screwdriver to punch a little starter hole if your ground is hard.
Overall we are very happy with these lights and would buy them again if they ever wear out. I hope my video is helpful.
