I purchased this item for an 8-days white water rafting trip on the Colorado river. The switch for this item is a "sliding switch," meaning you slide it side to side to turn it on/off. It worked fine for the first few days until sand got stuck between the switch and I was unable to slide the switch. Most of my friends purchased a push button version of this headlamp and they were happy with their purchases. My recommendation is that if you are going somewhere sandy, you might want to consider purchasing the other version of the headlamp.Best Petzl TacTikka 3-LED Headlamp with Red Flip-Up Lens Deals

I got this Headlamp so I can do work around at night with having both hands free. I have used it my whole time in Afghanistan and it has preformed very well. The battery life is amazing, which is always great out here because that means there is less batteries you have to buy and carry with you. The feature that sold me on this headlamp was the red lens. This is very essential at moving around at night without waking anyone up or making harder to be seen. I was really surprise with how bright it was. I thought the red lens would take away a lot of the brightness, but I could see just fine with the red lens down. I find this product very durable and can take a bit of abuse. I have dropped it many times or had gear fall on it and it has not broke yet. Overall I think this is a very good product and well worth the purchase.
