I bought this product along with the wired in light switch nearly 6 years ago.
When the original owner of the house built a detached garage, he never ran a light control from the house. Consequently the light switch for the garage external yard lights only worked from inside the garage. This Heath Zenith combination was the easy answer. The transmitter remains in the house, and the light switch replaced the old wall switch inside the garage. The working distance is about 30 feet, but through masonry and brick walls. Despite the fact that the transmitter battery is stated to last approximately one year, it is still fine after daily use for nearly 6 years. (The main outdoor yard lighting need is for the dogs on their nightly excursions to the yard, so it gets used a lot.) Great product.

I purchased and installed in my shop so that my wife could turn on the yard lights every morning before she went out to feed our horses. Remote+dimmer devices control an 11-halogen light display cabinet on one channel and a pair of lamps on the other. Performance is exactly as advertised, even if I am controlling functions from the next room, away from the dimmer wall switch. It works through walls!.
