I was looking for a dimmable LED replacement for a halogen bulb. At 9W vs. the halogen 60W, this is a huge energy saving and the LED is dimmable to an extent. With both LED and halogen on the same track, the differences are clearly noticeable; when the switch turns on, the LED lights up brighter to start and does not dim as low as the halogen. More importantly, the halogen bulb, with it's lens, produces light that is more diffused and warm with softer shadows and a wider beam; this LED has a harsher shadow and cooler light. I previously bought a comparable dimmable LED flood lamp from EarthLED (but recently not found on it's website) that is virtually indistinguishable from the halogen, so that is my benchmark for excellent. This LED is an okay replacement and offers energy savings but aesthetically is not equal.Best Deals for ECO-LITE DIMMABLE 9W LED PAR16 Flood 45 Soft White light bulb
This bulb flickers noticeably, though the flickering is minimized if the dimmer is turned all the way up. It's almost bad enough that I returned it, but not quite. I found another bulb that I like better.EDIT: Someone posted a reply to this comment that dimmable LEDs aren't intended for use with dimmer switches for regular (incandescent and halogen) bulbs. I replaced the old dimmer switch I was using with a Lutron CL Dimmer--a relatively painless operation--and now it doesn't flicker.
EDIT EDIT: Now that it's later and darker I can see that the bulb is still flickering, even with the new dimmer switch. If I'm charitable I'll say that maybe it was damaged somehow by using the non-LED dimmer switch and it's not entirely this bulb's fault. Regardless, I'll be replacing it soon, because the flickering is pretty annoying.
Honest reviews on ECO-LITE DIMMABLE 9W LED PAR16 Flood 45 Soft White light bulb
These are excellent halogen PAR16 replacement bulbs when dimming capability is required.I wish they were a little shorter than the halogen bulbs they are replacing (they extend slightly past the end of the recessed can). However, their performance is excellent. They turn on instantly. Quality and color of the light is close to what they are replacing (only slightly whiter). And they dim just fine.
