The plastic window over the LEDs has little magnifying glass lenses in front of each LED, which narrows the beam.
That makes it basically useless as a work light. The magnet on the back is fixed, so it can't be aimed at all and nearly all of the light is focused in one direction. So this thing only helps if whatever you are working on happens to be exactly perpendicular to an available metal surface.
There is very little flood lighting, except for an annoying thin peripheral ring. It is not very good for adding ambient light to a dark area.
I am suspicious of the 72-lumen claim. It looks more like 50, but I don't have any other flashlights in the 72-lumen range to compare.
For such a low price, it is not reasonable to expect anything more than generic LEDs. The real problem is the absolutely ridiculous choice by Dorcy to intentionally narrow the beam on a flashlight which is supposedly for mounting. All they had to do was just use a flat window, but they ruined it by trying to be fancy.

I purchased a couple last fall for the long dark winter. I use them in delivery vans. Three years ago I purchased four of the "Grip" 72 LED lights that are similar in size. Both types have magnets in back, swing out hooks. The Dorcys are much brighter, the lens panel does not crack and break as the Grips and best of all the switch spring is really heavy (maybe too much so) so they do not turn on and drain the batteries (AA's). Interesting lighting pattern needs a little improvement although. It's got a pretty good spot in the center which is quite bright surrounded by a larger circle that is most bright around the outer edges. (Needs more fill). This is done with 24 molded lens, one over each LED. The outside is smooth so dirt is not a problem. All in all excellent car light but maybe wrong shape for trail walking. Perfect shape for someone holding lite for you without blinding you..Best Deals for Dorcy 41-4227 Handheld LED Work Light with Hanging Hook, 72-Lumens

A friend gave me one of these as a gift because she knew my eyesight was failing & I needed good light to see certain things. I found this light to be most helpful when I drop small objects on the floor & they ALWAYS fall into the shadows!!! This light puts out such a strong light that there is NOTHING I can't find. It also comes in handy when trying to read & I just can't quite make it out. I turn this light to the page & suddenly everything becomes clearer!!! I liked the light so much that I purchased 3 more so I have one in each room. I also find them very handy when I need to go outside at night. I live in the country & it is really dark out & this light is perfect for showing me the path I need to take. The batteries last a really long time too!!! I've postponed writing my review just waiting to see if anything will go wrong & so far...NOTHING!!! I use my light a LOT & I've not had to replace a battery & ALL the LEDs are still working!!! I LOVE THIS LIGHT!!!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Dorcy 41-4227 Handheld LED Work Light with Hanging Hook, 72-Lumens
This L.E.D. Flashlight is one of the best I've ever used...It is compact , extremely bright, and small enough to fit in some tight areas where standard flashlights and trouble lights will not. It has a built in hook for hanging that folds flat when not being utilized, and also has a strong magnet that allows it to be held securely. I highly recommend this flashlight for multiple uses, and you can even store it by hanging it on the side of your metal toolbox or refrigerator by the magnet...EVW Lamp 82 Volt 250 Watt 82v 250w Bulb Review

I actually saw my porch light (this unit) come on and my door knob made a click noise. I stepped outside and noticed one person walking towards my neighbors house trying his lock and another person across the street as a look out. A quick call to the PD resulted in one of them caught. I might have never noticed someone trying my door to see if it was locked if not for this light. I also reviewed my security camera footage and saw both guys on it but they seemed to know I had cameras.

This light was easy to install and it works pretty well. I note that the motion detector works more like 20 feet away than 30 feet. Also, if you have a number of guests come by or you're in and out during the night, the unit gets pretty dim in the wee hours of the morning, just before the sun comes up. Also, it needs to be installed where it can get direct sunlight during the day to work well. Mounting this on the north side of a building might leave something to be desired... But it does work pretty well for illuminating a front or die doorway, providing more than enough light to select a key and work a lock or to find something you dropped. So all in all it does what it claims to do and installing it is simple and straight forward.
I purchased 2 of these about a month or so ago but stupidly did not use them right away. Two weeks ago I hung one up under my porch where it is protected from the rain but close enough to the edge to still get sun light. My Florida porch gets DIRECT West facing sunlight with no shade. It shone a bit even when off which was great and really turned on when it sensed motion. IT worked great for 2 weeks.
Tonight I walk out onto my porch no light. The thing is dead.
Buyer beware. Now I have to see if my delay will nullify my getting my money back on this useless product.
UPDATE this is for the first couple of these I ordered... my second batch was in the same box but not as impressive... you can look at it and see its close but not the same light... and its way dimmer on low light, looked dumb next to the brighter ones. ... about the same on high light after motion detect.

I found putting several of them in a given area produces a useable amount of light in my driveway when they are dim, and when motion trips them to full bright the amount of light was more than I expected. Besides more functional than lights mounted at ground or deck level the overhead glow gives a nice effect, The effect they give as you walk to the front door, with one tripping on after the other as you walk, is pretty impressive. Mounting them for me was easy but only because by dumb luck the bracket as is could slip under some molding and still be in bright sun. You may want to eye up a couple units before expecting several of them to mount in your locations of choice, I had to give up on one spot that seemed sunny till I noticed the roof cast a small shadow in late afternoon that hit that ideal light location. If they hold up and work well over time it deserves a 5 star rating. Out of the box with one day charging they did last from dusk to dawn. Time will tell how long that lasts, in the winter our nights get pretty long. For now I don't bother putting my porch lights on. And so far nothing driving or walking in the street has tripped them on, even when a stray headlight hits them. The motion detection range is pretty good, on full bright they could stay on longer, its only about 30 sec or so, But that is OK if you have several in place.UPDATE this is for the first couple of these I ordered... my second batch was in the same box but not as impressive... you can look at it and see its close but not the same light... and its way dimmer on low light, looked dumb next to the brighter ones. ... about the same on high light after motion detect.

I thought that it came with a 15' cord but it only had a 6' cord. For what I am using it for, I had to add a 10' extension cord which increased the total cost. It does seam to be durable so far which is a positive. I was hoping that it would replace a 500 watt work light that I also use but it is nowhere near bright enough. I bought it to conserve power. It doesn't quite do the job but I kept it anyway.
Discount LEDwholesalers 16.4ft RGB Color Changing Kit with LED Flexible

I purchased this kit through Amazon from LEDWholesalers. It was better than I expected (in terms of quality of materials, brightness of LEDs, and ease of installation.) One thing of note, they sent me the waterproof version (which typically is a little more expensive) even though I ordered the standard version. The problem with the waterproof version is that the 3M double sided tape included does not adhere very well to the clear plastic covering. Because I did not need my lights to be waterproof, I cut off the plastic and installed the LED strips with the 3M tape adhered directly to the back side of the strip (instead of to the plastic covering.) I used drywall screws to secure the controller and power supply inside a cabinet, and had a beautiful finished project. One thing I was surprised with, is that the controller actually has a memory -meaning when you choose the color of light, or pattern that you want to display, if you cut the power to the unit (by unplugging the power supply, or in my case, by flipping the wall switch that I installed) -When power is restored to the unit, it resumes displaying the color or pattern that you had chosen prior to powering down. This is an awesome feature because once you have your display set up the way you want it, you don't have to reset it every time you kill the power.
The kit (and it IS a kit, nothing more) is way more than I expected. I am using it as a halo light for my wall-mounted TV, and it works really well. Let's do a pros and cons list:
PROS:
1. Length it is way longer than I need for my 40" TV and, quite, frankly, I don't know what to do with the balance. The strip can be cut every ~2 inches, but I do not want to risk that. No doubt I will find a way to accommodate the extra length.
2. Brightness these tiny LEDs are much brighter than I anticipated, and they can be dimmed.
3. Variety there are a number of options for controlling the lights. There are 20 presets, but some are barely different than their neighbor.
4. Remote This kit contains the 44-key remote, but see cons below. Besides the presets, there are two options for flash (3and 7-color), and two options for fade in/out (also 3and 7-color). There are "quick" and "slow" buttons which do what you think, an "auto" function which appears to be random selection, "flash", 6 buttons for dim/bright gradation of the R, G and B, two buttons for dim/bright in general, and 6 buttons labeled "DIY" for do-it-yourself (again, see cons), and a pause/start toggle.
5. Setup There are NO instructions, but the fundamental setup is pretty easy to figure out.
6. Power supply Good quality transformer, akin to those used for laptops.
7. Extensions Apparently one can buy extra lengths, and there are four bare wires at the end of the strip for this purpose. I don't know how many can be added.
8. Because it's a kit, parts can be bought separately. The Amazon website is not very friendly in terms of showing what is and is not available, and the supplier's website is not very helpful either. But still, it's good to know.
CONS
1. The lack of instructions is a problem when it comes to some of the functions. For example, I have NO idea how the DIY buttons can be programmed.
2. There are some comments here complaining about the remote producing the wrong colors. Two observations:
The connector between the controller and the remote appears to be plug-in-able (!) two ways. I don't dare try the wrong way, but if you look closely you will see that the connectors have arrows which guide you to plugging it in correctly. I suspect that the complainers here have done it incorrectly.
The remote appears to issue multiple IR commands, and the IR sensor is not very receptive. Sometimes I get a result that I was not expecting, and this may be the problem.
3. The range of the remote is limited, and controlling it from my couch is a hit-and-miss affair. If you are close to the sensor, you are OK. (The sensor is attached to its own cable, which gives you the flexibility to position it appropriately.)
4. Interference Other equipment in my setup reacts to some of the remote's commands. Now, admittedly, I have a vast array of "stuff", but this is an issue. The problematic items are my TV, my security system DVR, my HDMI switch, and my heater. The last two have the same type of remote, and I think that these remotes use a stock set of standard commands, so I guess this is not a surprise. (The remote is one of those cheap credit-card sized jobs that use a button battery, except that this 44-key remote is longer than the typical credit-card size. But the basic construction is the same.)
5. The light strip is somewhat flimsy, but if you are careful and gentle when installing, this should not be an issue. After all, once installed, you are not going to be messing with it!
6. There is no manual, a huge oversight, imho, because there is a lot of stuff that needs explanation.
One comment about the remote's distance and interference problems... I have solved this with a workaround. I taped one end of an optical audio cable (TOSLink) to the IR sensor, and placed the other end of the cable near the couch, out of the line of fire of all my other electronic equipment. This works a treat after, these cables are nothing more than a piece of fiber-optic cable, designed to transmit light pulses! And PLEASE do not pay an arm and a leg for one of these cables. Some time ago, I bought a bunch of them for $1.00 apiece. And, right now, Ben's Outlet (online store go Google it) has them for about $1.99. When you think about it, paying through the nose for a strip of cable makes no sense. Btw, the same goes for HDMI cables NEVER pay more than a couple of dollars for one, regardless of what you see on the web. Rick Broida at CNet recently wrote an article about this again, Google it you may be pleasantly surprised.
I have e-mailed the distributor (LEDWholesalers.com) with some questions and comments, and have not yet received a response. Hopefully they will, and if they have any good info, I will update this review.
All in all, though, I love this kit, and will certainly consider buying more related stuff! Just remember that it is a KIT, so don't expect everything to work right out of the box. Enjoy!
These little LEDs are very bright! I can't imagine what the super bright LEDs available would be like! The remote control includes 16 brightness levels, a strobe effect albeit very slow, and smooth transition from color to color, and fade transition from color to color, and a flash mode. There are 15 colors to choose from from the RGB spectrum. The remote is small and light weight (about the size of a credit card but about 1/4" thick) and runs off of a common CR2025 battery. The range of the remote is about 15-20 feet.
The only problem that arose while testing the kit is with the remote. The color spectrum on it isn't the same as what the LED strip projects. For instance, when you press the Green button the LEDs light up Blue or press the Blue button and the LEDs project Green. The Red spectrum controls the Blues, the Blue spectrum controls the Reds, but at least the Green spectrum still controls the Greens :)
Overall I'm very excited and pleased with these lights. I'm using the first kit for shadow lighting for under my bar I'm building. I intend on purchasing more kits for walkway lighting in our Home Theater and also for accent lighting in our kitchen, office, and bathrooms.

This looks more complicated than it is. You get a reel of lights which has a white four prong plug on one end and some exposed wires on the other end. You plug the four prongs into a "female" end on the white box you get. You connect the white box to the transformer that plugs into the wall. Plug it in to an outlet, push buttons on the remote and you are done. If you are connecting more lights, then order a data repeater, here or on the company's website, and use a connector ($2) or preferable solder. Otherwise, just some electrical tape over the exposed wires. I cannot comment on longevity yet, as these just arrived. I don't know how many strings can be connected, but for other lights I have seen 36 feet (about 2 of these). The remote that I received was the larger one (the pics show large and small). The lights are super bright and can be dimmed. You can go with a steady colour or flashing or changing colours. I plan to put them around my sliding door in my family room to provide light for TV viewing. The price is great for these. If I can think of another use, I will get more -maybe the garage.Best Deals for LEDwholesalers 16.4ft RGB Color Changing Kit with LED Flexible

These light strips are fantastic! The kit will come with everything needed to get up and running; the power supply, light strip, controller, and remote. The LED strip ribbon can be cut after every three LEDs, you'll just have to solder the four leads on (or purchase the $2.00 lead) in order to connect a power supply/controller to them again. The strip contains an adhesive backing for mounting to virtually any dry surface. On one end you have the plug wired in for you to connect to the controller, on the other side there is already four leads attached for you if you would like to purchase a driver to hard wire into the strip. These little LEDs are very bright! This kit was easy to install, reasonably bright, and extremely cool. However, the IR remote I received was the simpler 24-key one, not the 44-key one pictured and in the description.Reviews of Dimmable LED MR16 35 watt replacement bulb- New Dimmable Cree LED

I've been looking for a longer life and lower power option for the ceiling bulbs in my home theater. They are very hard to access for replacement and the acoustical padding I have for the theater tends to make the cans get hotter than one would like.
I bought two of these bulbs to try in the theater and have been very pleased with the performance and the light characteristics. As the rest of my bulbs burn out, I will be replacing them with these.
They dim just fine using my Crestron light system which was one of my original concerns. No problems whatsoever

This was bought as a toy for a child to go on safari with. It was more than expected and a great hit! If you wanted it for a bedroom just in case the lights were to go out it would be perfect!

Nice size, nice light. A good stuff for your car, house, any place. Recommended. I'm surprised with brightness of this led bulb.
Update.
After a month using it, the bulb is not working. I bought another bulb and after 1 month is not working either. Poor quality.
Division 1 is for areas where ignitable mixtures of dust and air or a flammable (Class I or heated Class II or Class III) liquid is likely to be present. Division 2 is where these mixtures are not normally present, except when equipment is opened. Under these circumstances, that area becomes Division 1. (Division zero in Europe.)
This flashlight requires 4-AA batteries, which come with the flashlight. IT's a little tricky loading batteries. Once you've removed the lamp and bulb, push the battery cover below the lamp a couple of times; I almost used a screwdriver.

Originally, I bought a Pelican 2100 stealthlite and was disappointed because the twist-on light allows the battery amps to leak away. With its robust switch, tube-shaped back, and florescent (see-in-the-dark) head this is ideal for a water-proof application or one requiring Div.2 certification. Note that electrical area classification (EAC) Division 1 is not available at any reasonable price.Division 1 is for areas where ignitable mixtures of dust and air or a flammable (Class I or heated Class II or Class III) liquid is likely to be present. the down side to all of the pelican flashlights (at least the low end ones) is the cost of replacement bulbs. it is a toss up to just replace the flash light rather than buy a new bulb that cost almost as much as the flashlight.Honest reviews on #2400PLC StealthLite Pelican Flashlight w Photoluminsecent Shroud

Purchased this for my daughter to use a reading light in bed, but it's far too small for that. The clip was not large enough to attach to her bunk bed and the on switch was far too difficult for my five year old to operate by herself.
