Working with my hands in dark electrical cabinets and under machinery meant I was searching for a light I could strap to my hardhat and give me bright light from my hands to around 6' away.

This unit puts out exactly the right amount of light at those distances and beyond.

Three settings: Single, bright middle bulb on. This setting is a slightly yellow (in comparison to setting 2) and a bit more focused but still very effecctive. Setting 2 is the outside 12 LED's on. A wide, bright white array of light that is perfect for close work. And setting 3 is all lights on. Good for especially dark places as you will light up a very large area.

Great on batteries. Hours and hours of constant use before changing batteries. Hard to nail down times, depends on which setting you use. A good estimate is 10+ hours from my experience.

Good solid construction. The rubber like casing of the light means you can bump it without worry.

Head strap is excellent.

If it gets too loose, adjust a small screw and you'll be good for a long while. I have had this for 6 months and adjusted the screw once. The light stays where you put it.

Battery compartment is a clip style door. No need to track down a tool to change your batteries.

Price is excellent for what you get. A certified good deal.

Highly recommend.

I got this from my local WalMart for $15. It's listed at 65 lumens for the spot mode and 24 lumens for the flood mode, or 89 lumens for using both modes at the same time. This is false. I have many headlights and flashlights, and this definitely isn't 89 lumens with both modes on. It's not even 65 lumens on the high mode. I'd say it's about 40 lumens on high, and maybe 60 lumens with both spot and flood on. Apart from that, it's a good headlight.

It runs on three AAA batteries, and three Energizer alkalines are included. The switch is on top, and has a pretty satisfying click. The light comes on in spot (high) mode first, then flood, then dual mode, then off. You have to click through all the modes to turn the light off. The spot light uses a Cree LED, but I'm not sure what type. The flood mode uses twelve 5mm LEDs. The tint to the lights is nice; they're smooth and white, without blue-ish tints.

The headband is nice and rugged, and fully adjustable. I'm pretty satisfied with it. The plastic housing feels sturdy, and has a bit of a rubbery feel to it. I like it. I have no doubt this would make a good light for a toolbox or emergency kit.

My problem with the Bayco is the misleading output claims. There are many low-cost lights that are better for my uses. The Energizer Trailfinder series is available in many variations to fit many budgets, and almost all of them have a red LED for preserving night vision. This is important to me. Most of the Rayovac lights advertise honest lumen claims and are just as rugged as the Bayco. I'm disappointed by the output levels, but it's still a decent headlight. If given the chance, I wouldn't buy another one of these unless the price were lowered.
