I have several friends, and two nieces, that are history buffs, and I'm planning to order them all one. It may be the hit of the Christmas season.

I bought two of these lamps to use as attractive night lightsI think they'll do a good job. The only con I can think of at this time is that the base is made out of plastic. You can't tell its made out of plastic unless you pick it upbut everybody wants to pick this lamp up and look at it...Best Deals for Mark Feldstein & Associates LNT8 Portable LED Lantern
These flickering lanterns look surprisingly real, and the batteries last forever when you use the timer. Great product.Honest reviews on Mark Feldstein & Associates LNT8 Portable LED Lantern
I love this lantern. The timer's great. The style does not look cheap. I have three now and I'm buying a fourth. The first one I bought is orangey and dim, but the other two are much brighter and a much more authentic yellow. I got a refund for the first one when I found out that they're not supposed to be that dim, and Amazon didn't even require me to send it back so I'm keeping it for free. My only issue with the lanterns now is that they take 3 AA batteries and I have to change them once a month. That adds up to a lot of batteries, so I'll need to invest in rechargeable ones. I use these lanterns to light the outlet-less hallway in my 100-year-old apartment, so I use them year round. If you only want these lanterns for Halloween or Christmas, the battery power would not be a problem at all. As it is, I still highly recommend them.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Mark Feldstein & Associates LNT8 Portable LED Lantern
I ordered two of these little lanterns at the same time and they came in the same box, but were not packaged the same. One lantern was packaged as it might be on a store shelf--you know, in its little carton with its picture on the outside, and well wrapped inside. That lantern is perfect and a pleasure. Charming.Five stars for that one.
The other was simply wrapped in bubble wrap. Upon unwrapping it, I saw some moderate scarring was on a couple of sides of the glass, removing some of the frosted effect. That matters less than the fact that the timer on that one hasn't worked at all--the timer setting of the switch acting the same as the "on" setting. Moreover, the light is paler than that of the other lantern and flickers sharply, almost frantically, vs. the soothing flicker of the first lantern. (Looks like it's about to die, but doesn't.) Brand new batteries don't help.
This is hardly the matched set intended to flank a memorial flag on the mantel.
So five stars for the first LED Lantern; two stars (rather than one) for the second only because it still is working, after all. It just isn't as pleasant nor is it useable for its intended purpose.
Frankly I'm not up for the hassle of returning it and try as I might I've been unable to find a working link to leave a comment for the seller. Sorry about that.
February 2012: Both are still working, even the "frantic" one with the defective timer. Satisfaction with them as a pair is therefore minimal. Yes, they've been on the mantel after all, flanking the memorial flag until I find something better.
