A good lamp is a necessity for those who spend a number of hours working at a desk, and if you're like some of us, a number of these ending up being donated to yard sales or thrift shops after a few months or years. Incandescent lamps have their drawbacks, and flickering fluorescent lamps can lead to eyestrain. Halogen lamps are bright, but may be harsh, and they are usually hot to the touch. LED lamps are the newest of the breed, and as they enter the generation of serious desk lamps, these may provide an almost ideal solution for many.
The MIU COLOR Cool White Ultra-thin Eye-Protection Gooseneck LED Desk Lamp falls into this newer generation of well-crafted lighting fixtures that offer more than one sees at first glance. Besides offering excellent light quality, it also offers a detachable, portable head that that can be used as an emergency outdoor light source, making it good for a camping or utility light when needed. Have spent a couple of months living with this light so far, and here my highly-subjective key points found so far with this desk lamp, then followed with some expanded details.

This MIU COLOR Portable Desk Lamp comes packaged in an attractive and easy-to-open briefcase-style box, and it's the type that's easy to wrap for gift-giving. Inside you will find the following:

◆ In Use:
After reading the user manual, assembly of this lamp took less than sixty seconds... it's that easy, and good to see that the product designers took the time to make it virtually good-proof. Hooked the USB cable first to a notebook PC for its initial overnight charge, but then switched to a RCA Compact iPad Charger, where it has remained since, as personally its primary purpose is as a desk lamp. The USB port on the base of the unit has been excellent for charging my Android smartphone every night.
The light quality is excellent, and for use as a reading light or when working late hours with a computer, I have experienced no eyestrain whatsoever. There are three light settings on the lamp head, and with a simple touch of a finger, the blue illuminated on/off switch can go from low (100 lux) up to high (500 lux); the high setting is about the equivalent office lighting, and I personally found the low and medium settings best for reading and general computer work.
As a small note, I found the high and medium setting to be invaluable when recently rebuilding a PC that had been fried... it happens. Removing the LED lamp head and using it to get inside of the computer to repair and re-install components made such detail work much easier. It's easy to see that besides for camping and other outdoor uses, the mobility of this removable LED head makes it very useful for portable detail work.
Have been using a Halogen Arm Desk Lamp for a few years now, and besides the irritation of trying to find 50W 12V bi-pin halogen bulbs locally when one goes, that lamp is very hot to the touch. If one has youngsters around, lamps like this can be dangerous. But the MIU COLOR desk lamp is cool to the touch when it has been left on even at its highest settings. It also provides better overall illumination, and is much easier on the eyes in overall use.
This same company also offers another interesting product, the MIU COLOR Portable Mini Bed Light, which also doubles as an LED reading light, a baby night light, an LED dimmable desk light, emergency light and more. The reviews are good on this AAA battery powered product, so if you have the need for an innovative product that can be clipped to a variety of places, this one may be worth considering.
◆ Interesting Uses:
Camera users take note: for photographic purposes, this MIU COLOR desk lamp is excellent for either desktop or field macro use. Color temperature is measured in degrees Kelvin, and generally the ideal is to have a light source that's rated at 5500K, which approximates average noon daylight. This is the color temperature that color film is balanced to, which means that when shooting using daylight film settings, the photograph will record white objects as white and all the colors in an image will appear natural on the film.
Incandescent lamps are not good as their light offers a yellowing cast. Fluorescent desk lamps have a greenish cast, and halogen lamps may be bright, but are hot and can vary in their light output and Kelvin temperature. Tried this lamp using regular non-corrected daylight settings with both a Nikon DSLR and an older 35mm film camera (some of us still have them), and the image results were excellent.

This MIU COLOR Cool White Ultra-thin Eye-Protection Gooseneck LED Desk Lamp exceeded my expectations as a working light that has been used on a daily basis. It has replaced my halogen desk lamp altogether, as its overall light quality has proven to be an eye saver. It's easy to assemble in under a minute, and the build quality is first rate. This one is highly recommended as a 5-star product to all who are looking for a good desk lamp that offers more than just that. It's an excellent value, bright and functional.

This is a nicely designed LED desk lamp that has several unique features. It comes unassembled but it literally can be assembled in less than a minute. The lamp does not come with a USB wall charging source and the is the only real complaint that I can state., You can charge it with any USB AC wall source and the recommended power is 5 VDC at 1000 mAh. The top of the lamp stands 20 inches tall. The USB cable powers the lamp and also charges it. There is a lithium battery in the lamp head that has a battery capacity of 1000 mAh. The power from the cable also powers a rear USB port on the back of the lamp that will output 500 mAh at 5VDC to allow you to charge an IPod or a smart phone.
There is a touch sensitive switch on the back of the lamp head that can be used to turn the lamp onto high, medium or low light settings. There are 32 Mini LEDs in the lamp head that can output 100 to 500 lumens. The lamp head can be removed from the lamp in a second and it will operate 1 hour on high beam, 2 to 3 hours on the medium beam and 8 hours on the low setting. The battery can be recharged over 500 times.
This is an excellent desk reading lamp that also acts like an emergency light or it can be used to take with you while camping or traveling. The lamp features a highly adjustable goose neck and the head can be tilted also. Please see my video. This is an ideal desk lamp for a child's room as it operates on low voltage and because it uses LEDs it operates at a very cool level of temperature that will not burn your skin or start a fire if knocked over into papers or books. It is very safe when compared to the high heat of a halogen bulb for example that would easily burn your skin quickly.

The light out of the lamp is clear and cool and easy to read with. You can just grab the lamp head or take the entire lamp with you without the power cable and use it. The lamp head even has a loop on the top of it so you can hang it or put a lanyard on it to carry in case of emergencies. I like this lamp a lot and it is a unique concept in that it is a good desk lamp but also one that is portable and can even work while it is disassembled. I rated it 5 stars.

The MIU lamp is so much more than just a flexible and portable table lamp. I'd say it's actually more like a large rechargeable battery pack (the base) with a light attached to it. This design makes it far more functional than a basic lamp.
The MIU lamp comes in 3 main pieces that you put together, the base, the flexible neck, and the flat LED lamp. The base is wide and flat, so it keeps the lamp stable on a table's surface even when bending the neck piece at different angles. Contained in the base is a rechargeable battery which powers the lamp. There is a USB cable included for recharging the battery. On the back of the base there is a USB port should you want to charge a device using a USB charging cable. This feature is what makes the base remind me of a large portable battery pack. Should you not even need to use the lamp, you can still recharge devices like smartphones using this USB port located on the base of the lamp.
The flexible neck of the lamp provides power from the base, to the detachable LED lamp portion on the top. This piece is screwed into the base, and a large jack like connection is used at the top to attached the LED lamp.
The LED lamp piece is long and flat, and can be detached from the base to provide portable light for a little while. There is a built in plastic loop on the end of the lamp, so you can hang it from something like a hook or strap should you want to. On the lamp there is a single touch-sensitive power button that controls all the light's functions. You simply touch the button rather than press down on it. To power the lamp on or off, you hold your finger on the button for a second or so. To switch between the lamp's 3 brightness settings, you tap the power button and it cycles through each of them.
This LED lamp gives off quite a bit of light, and can be especially handy in a power outage. When the battery has been charged, it doesn't need to be plugged in, and it can provide many hours of bright light. And with the detachable top LED section, you can use it like a portable flashlight should you not want to carry the whole lamp around with you. These unique features are what make the MIU lamp so much more than just another table lamp.

I have been searching for LED eye-protection lamp for a while, as I am a reading lover. And I have to say this desk lamp is the best I've ever used.
