Update: 5/17/2013 Well i have been really pushing this little light since i got it. I wouldn't want to be stranded in the wilderness and tying to get home using it's compass. God only knows where i would end up. I been leaving it on in the bedroom on low for a night light. I went fishing a couple of times at night and it worked very well. I am still running on the same batteries i installed in it. Doesn't seem to be using them up in a hurry. It really does put out a lot of light for it's size. The other night i turned out all the lights in my living room and put it on my computer desk. I had no problem seeing the keys on the key board and seeing everything on the desk plus reading a instruction manual on how to install my new fax machine. I am going to order 4 more to put in every room in my house. That way i can use them anytime i need them. When they break i will just throw them away. I am using the sanyo batteries i bought here on amazon.

These lights are great. I ordered 3 of them, and they were better than i thought they would be. They have 3 reflectors with 4 LEDS each, arranged in a circle and the light is good, like a 25 watt light bulb. With new batteries you only need to turn the brightness control to about three quarters of the way up to light up a camper or a room in the house to see good, full bright is better of course, but not needed. I tested one to see how long the 3 AA batteries would last. First day it was on 10 hours at three quarters brightness. Day 2, 3, and 4 10 hours each day at full brightness, all on the same batteries. First 2 days light output was very good, and at the end of third day light output was down to about half of another light that had new batteries with control at three quarter on. After day 4, 40 hours, light output was down to about 20%, but i could still see good enough to walk around the house in total darkness. These things will come in handy for emergency lights during a power outage. They could give you 4 to 5 nights of light @ 6 to 8 hours a night on just 3 AA batteries. I think they are just as good as simular ones as seen on TV at over three times the price. They are made in China of course, but i give them 5 stars for durabilty, good light output, long battery life, and design. This lantern has a decently solid construction. The plastic is not cheap and the carry handles are of a solid wire type metal. This lantern could probably withstand a drop or two and still work well. The light is not very bright. It is bright enough for the price, but if you're looking for a lantern to light up a room well, this is not for you. The compass doesn't really work well and is superfluous. The dimmer is of absolutely no value. You'll want the lantern on full power just to be able to see ok. All in all, I give this lantern a 3 star rating. These run off AA batteries and are reasonably bright. I use two in our large tent. They have a dimmer so you can adjust the light given off. Batteries last a long time. i recieved 2 lanterns in the mail. shipped pretty fast. on one of the lanterns i recieved the turn off/on switch fell off, but the company was fast and willing to help replace it. they are very bright and last a long time on battery life.. i use these things everyday. i would recommend this product to every camper or hunter, works great for fishing too. i give this review 5 stars
