Brighter than I expected. Bright as a street light. It illuminates my neighbors (across the street) front yard and driveway some 90 feet away.

The sensor works great. Mine is mounted about 18 feet over my driveway on the house. Cars driving by on the street (measured at 40 feet) set the sensor off. It comes with plastic tabs which you can cut to limit the range (I will do that tomorrow). So far, no false positives (random turning on). There is absolutely no delay and turns on at every angle (even directly underneath it).

Like all motion sensors it's a pain to adjust the time setting. Lots of trial and error (and in my case, dozens of trips up and down a ladder). Of course, that's just where the technology is.

The light fixture is made of a strong aluminum (it gets very hot very fast) and the sensor and mounts are made of plastic. I don't see any quality problems with this design (even though I was troubled about the plastic when taking the unit out of the box). Once mounted it demonstrated to be very strong and secure.

Update 6/2013

I did find a replacement bulb. The J118 300w 120v. While replacing the bulb I found that the fixture design has a hinged glass front that swings down. It would have been better if it swung up. The screws holding the glass front in place are on the top rear of the fixture because it swings down, rather than being on the bottom rear if it had swung up. The entire fixture had to be removed to access those screws due to the height it was mounted at. I didn't actually have to take the wiring apart because I had enough slack in the Romex to just let it hang while I opened the glass front.

One thing about the replacement bulb. It fits very tightly between two spring-loaded prongs. Make sure you get the 118mm J118 and not the 119mm J119. The J119 will not fit.

Update 5/2013

The lamp that had previously kept coming on during overcast days has finally died. I never could get it to cooperate. I cannot find a replacement halogen bulb. I will have to replace the entire fixture. That makes this fixture a 2.25 year investment. Not bad. The other one is going strong.

Update 10/2012

The two lamps are still going strong after 1.5 years. No worries.

Original Review I purchased two of these exterior lights based on the reviews from this and other sites. They work almost perfectly and are very bright. They are as good as outdoor motion sensor lights get (unfortunately).

The only problem that I have had is that one of the lights tends to come on during an overcast day. I'm confident that if I play with the adjustments a bit more I will get it to work as intended. That means hauling out the ladder again.

One more thing, the escutcheon (attachment ring) that covers the adjustment dials is very loose. You must install the supplied motion sensor shroud to lock it securely in place.

As others have said in reviews on other sites, I would have preferred the mounting plate to be metal rather than plastic. I would have also liked a notch at the bottom of the mounting plate to feed the Romex wiring through. But based on other motion sensor lights that I have tried in the past, this one deserves five stars.
