I grabbed 3 of these from EarthLED (Amazon Marketplace seller) as soon as they became available after waiting for over a year for their release. Running at an average of 8.0 to 8.3 watts according to my Kill-a-Watt, lighting up instantly and emitting a slightly warm white light that impressively disperses evenly in front of and behind the unit, this bulb exudes practicality coupled with elegance. Weighing slightly more than the popular Philips LED bulb of similar wattage, this will need to be kept in mind when choosing a fixture. However, should you have some enclosed luminaires that need filling, this is the first bulb designed to function inside them (without prematurely burning out or going dim) thanks to its proprietary liquid cooling tech. After running for about 30 minutes (in an open fixture), I was able to easily touch the heatsink as it was only warm to the touch and not excessively hot like other LED bulbs on the market. This effectively expands the practical usage one can expect to achieve with LED bulbs and finally heralds the incandescent replacement that will make both incandescent and fluorescent bulbs obsolete. There is the matter of the price that will slow adoption in the meantime, but this is a mere temporary inconvenience, which is fortunately shortened by overly exuberant early adopters like me. ;)

EDIT on 2-18/2013: I was mistaken about these being the first LED bulbs available rated for enclosed fixtures. If we're basing first on the date of availability in the marketplace, the Xledia series beats out Switch by at least a few months: XLEDIA X40L 7.4 Watt 485 Lumen Soft White (2700K)

I bought this hoping to try it out as a bathroom vanity light. The color temperature and light output pretty much exactly matched the existing 40w decorative lights. I actually liked the look of it...very modern. Unfortunately the rest of the family wasn't as impressed (it's much smaller than a G25 globe). Next stop was an enclosed fixture in my closet that we leave on all night as a night lite. I was using a CFL in there, which worked well, but I always noticed the lag coming on and the warm up time. This light comes on instantly and at full brightness. I'm going to try the 6w Cree light bulb from Home Depot in this fixture next. The one thing about this light that you have to bear in mind is its weight. The socket in the closet fixture was definitely having a little trouble holding it up. I wish this bulb had come out a year earlier, and do wish it was a bit closer to the Philips lights in price. I hope they'll eventually get a 2700K 100w equivalent.

wanted to try out this bulb because of the enclosed fixture rating.

using it as porchlight. light is diffused by frosting on bulb and fixture.

hardly attracts any bugs!

4/5 because of price.

I love the look of the bulb itself, love that it uses such little energy and runs cool enough to use pretty much anywhere. The light quality overall is pretty good and the temperature is nice and warm like tungsten, but it does seem to have a slight green-ish hue to the light color. It's a great bulb, but giving it 4 stars for the high price and slightly green tint.
