IF you are interested in dimming cfl bulbs, the first thing you must know is that you must buy dimmable bulbs, then and most importantly you must have a dimmer that will work with cfl bulbs, if you don't you will burn out the cfl bulbs very quickly.

This dimmer is designed just for that purpose, it is universal in that it works with cfl or led or regular light bulbs, it has an internal switch to set the mode.

This dimmer can also be used for a three way switch or a standard one way switch. It will dim cfl's to the lowest level possible before they flicker, then you can set it so that they never go lower. These folks have put together in one package all the things required to make this actually work right.

I went through two different types of dimmers and burned out several CFL bulbs, over the last couple of years as no one had written or communicated these requirements for CFL dimming. This switch is the first thing you buy and install,

then by dimmable cfl bulbs of the brand that the switch manufacturer on their web site says will work with this switch, the list is long. Once done it will all work perfectly, I am using two of them in my home and I am completely satisfied with the arrangement.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a standard slider dimmer switch, but it has another hidden switch behind the faceplate that switches between CFL or LED/INC. That is, one setting works with dimmable compact fluorescent and the other setting works for dimmable LED and standard incandescent bulbs.

There are four wires on the back (not screw down terminals). Ground, Hot, Neutral, Common.

It also has an ability to set the "low light" setting to something more than so dim I cant even tell it is on. You have to go through a series of menuvers, but I got it to work. It was set fine from the factory for my incandescent lights, but needed to be reset when I switched over to compact fluorescent.

Please note that the faceplate is not included It should be.

Also note that the features have a bit of a rounded appearance more rounded than my other switches.

The slider feels very solid and high quality.

This is the third dimmer I have purchased for my new recessed LED lights. The first two units were a Lutron (CTCL-153P-WH) and a Pass & Seymour / legrand (DCL453PTCCCV6). Both of those flickered like crazy even after several lost hours of tweaking the settings and both were also several dollars more than this Leviton. I received the Leviton in the mail today and installed it in 10 minutes. I didn't change any settings at all and it dims perfectly. Whoop Whoop! Thank you Leviton and Amazon! FYI, my led lights are Sylvania LED15PAR30LN/DIM/830/FL40 Dimmable LEDs.

I ordered this switch and the slightly cheaper Leviton R12-06633-PLW (Leviton R12-06633-PLW Decora 3Way Slide Dimmer with Preset, Lighted Pad Option, White)at the same time. The cheaper switch is actually much better for LED's.

I tested both switches with a series of three 75 watt equivalent Par40 LED's in the soft white spectrum.

I find that this switch is not very precise, meaning that at any given position on the slider, the lights may dim to a variable level. For instance, at a given position, the lights may dim to 60%, but when you move the slider and put it back in the same place, it is 52%.

Also, the dimmer functions with a sort of "soft" or automated looking action. When you move the slider, the dimming action is not immediate, and the dimming sort of chases the position on the slider. Some may find this to be a nice effect, but I don't like how it makes me feel like I'm not getting the right level of dimming I'm after.

One other thing that should be noted: with this switch, my LED's do not come on at the same time. With the other switch, the lights all illuminate at the exact same time, every time.

I was happy to find that I notice no *flicker* with either switch.

I appreciate that this switch will function on a two switch set up, but people should note that any two switch set-up with a dimmer can only have one switch as a dimmer (the other switch can be only on/off).

It's also nice that the switch included the necessary wire nuts.

Finally, one should note that there is a tiny little switch above the slider (which gets covered by the faceplate) which allows this dimmer to be used with either CFL or LED/Incandescent.

I still need one more switch for a third bank of LED's, so I will definitely be ordering the Leviton R12-06633-PLW (Leviton R12-06633-PLW Decora 3Way Slide Dimmer with Preset, Lighted Pad Option, White), NOT this switch.

I installed this dimmer to work where I have a vanity containing 4 of these bulbs: Philips 423244 10-Watt 60-Watt L-Prize Award Winning LED Light Bulb.

I wanted the high quality, efficient light from these efficient, high-CRI LED bulbs, but sometimes it was way too bright. After some shopping on Amazon I decided to buy this dimmer. It was easy for me to install and instructions were much better than typical.

It was necessary to bump up the minimum brightness to get rid of the red hue when the Philips L-Prize bulb was dimmed (this is when the red LED's start but the blue ones haven't kicked in). I was able to program the minimum brightness level on the first try using the simple set of instructions.

The dimmer uses a "soft start" and there is still a very short duration when the light is reddish with these particular LED bulbs when first switched on. There was a slight buzz from one of the lights (not the dimmer). I simply swapped the bulb with another identical one from a non-dimmed fixture and they are all quiet under any dimmed condition.

I knocked off a star because the rocker switch is not intuitive. Every time I go to use the light it's not a natural motion to switch the light on and off, I have to spend extra time and attention to look for the rocker. If the slider is on the lowest position and I go to slide it upward, I can mistakenly turn off the light. Family I showed the switch to didn't notice the rocker and expected the slider to turn it on.

Other than the light being on or off, there is no way to tell whether the rocker is on or off, since it is mounted horizontally and there is no backlight or other "on" marking. I would have liked it if the switch was simply a slider that goes into a detent at the bottom to turn it off.

All in all, I found it does the job I expected it to and the adjustable minimum brightness closed the deal with me.

Don't forget to pick up a wall plate it's not included.
