I researched and found this item and purchased it from Amazon due to the poor contruction of my new house. The overhead light fixtures were installed with very weak blue plastic electrical boxes which are not fan rated. This was the perfect solution. I pulled out the cheap plastic box and installed this brace. Very sturdy, heavy duty, product. It does exactly what is says it will do. GREAT PRODUCT!!!!

Having an older house, i decided it was time to put in a few ceiling fans for a more natural cooling solution. I can't recommend this highly enough. The gang/electrical boxes in older houses especially, aren't designed to hold the weight of modern ceiling fans. This product is a godsend. Installation was incredibly easy, as i was removing an existing light in the center of the room to add a ceiling fan with lights. Buyers should take note, if you are replacing an existing light of some sort, you're going to have to kill the power and take out the existing box and wires and reroute them through the holes in the new one. You insert the bar through your existing hole or a new 4" in diameter hole, and twist it until it gets tight. You then use a wrench to give it a few more twists and the teeth on the end braces dig in to the ceiling joists. Run/rerun your wires through the punch outs in the circular box and attach it to the bar and you're ready. Another additional feature i liked about this is that it allows you to flush mount almost any fan. It also has a native mounting system for Hunter fans. I bought 3 and all were incredibly easy to install and my ceiling fans don't wobble at all, highly recommended.

Sturdy, easy to install, exactly as advertised. I used this box to replace a ceiling light with a fan. Initially I planned to use the old light box since I purchased a somewhat small, light fan, however when I removed the old light I discovered the box was loose and of cheap quality. I was very happy with my decision to purchase this box. It went in without any issues and was very sturdy.

I bought a 70" ceiling fan and went to find the studs in the vaulted ceiling and could not understand why the electrical box was not connected to the stud? The newer homes use metal rods in the attic to suspend fans and lights new to me. So I thought the fan was shipping back. The next day at work I was telling a co-worker about my experience and he recommended the "T" brace. I was skeptical but went ahead and ordered the T brace. This item is priceless. I had to open the hole up in the ceiling by about 1" and then just like the instructions stated inserted in the opening and expanded the bar. As soon the the ends hit the studs it snugged right up and that was it. I was also skeptical about the strength so I carefully suspended myself from the bar and it held me no problem 200 pounds! I am sure there are people who don't mind crawling around the attic in the dark and 100 degree weather with unknown critters present but if you don't like doing that this is the fix for hanging fans or heavier light fixtures. Very Happy Customer

Very useful and saved a lot of work. I had to adapt it since the joists it would connect with had metal plates where the teeth should bite. So I connected a flat ceiling fan rose instead of the included box and fitted it much lower (below the metal plates). It's an easy fix if you have the same situation.

The best part is the whole contraption fits through a 4 inch hole before you expand it. Feels very sturdy.
