I ordered 3 of these LEDs to replace bulbs in old lanterns I already own a cheap Dorcy equivalent and a more expensive Dolphin. With a fresh battery, they work at least as well as the incandescent bulbs, and I expect the light output to remain more constant as the battery ages the light output from old batteries with incandescent bulbs drops off very quickly.

With a fresh battery, incandescent bulb drew 800mA; same battery with these LEDs runs at 120mA. I'm expecting a significant increase in battery life, as well as durability the original incandescent bulbs are quite overdriven with a fresh battery.

There are more powerful LEDs available, but I think this type will provide the best compromise between brightness and runtime without having to upgrade the battery.

A worthwhile purchase but Amazon shipping to the rest of the world is very expensive (hey, at least Amazon will sell some things overseas) and I think Amazon and their partners really need to work on better service to the rest of the world.

This really shouldn't be listed as a 4.5 to 6 volt bulb. It really doesn't work well on 4.5 volts (or 3 cells). On 3 D battery flashlights, the output is marginal at best and no where near the rated output. If you put it on 6 volts, the output is significantly brighter (not great mind you, but honestly it is only rated at 40 lumens to begin with). So to achieve the rated 40 lumens, you have to have it in a 4 battery flashlight. Thus the item seems a bit misrepresented to me. For 3 cell flashlights, there are far better LED conversions out there (cost a few bucks more, but well worth the money).

I bought this to make a $6 Dorcy lantern flashlight I got a a local X-Mart useful. I have had horrible luck with getting good light from those lanterns over the years. Tonight I replaced the filament bulb it came with this one and what a difference it made! The flashlight is now as bright as the Dorcy 41-1046 13 LED Lantern (actually brighter, more focused beam). I would put it up against a 4 cell maglite...in fact, I would purchase this combination over a maglite since the lanterns will stand on end. If it ever lets me down, I'll update the review to say so.

I bought this bulb to replace the bulb in my old "road toad" bicycle lamp. This will decrease my battery usage considerably. I therefore expect it to pay for itself in 1 season. The light that I am using has 4 AA cells. It shines bright for a LED. Changing it out was a cinch and I saved the resources and money for a new lamp.

This bulb made a dramatic improvement for an otherwise poor performing six volt lantern. It throws a very bright spotlight. With the brighter illumination and the longer life for battery and bulb, this was a very worthwhile purchase.

However, in my lantern, the spot is narrower than I would prefer. I wanted to use this lantern as an emergency work light where a broader beam would be useful. The narrow beam may be due to my particular lantern and not the bulb itself.
