I got this lamp to supplement inaedquate cafeteria lighting during my working weekends. I like to read while eating and the minimal lighting provided at my facility during what are off-hours for most just won't do. The 20 LEDs don't provide lighting that's as evenly distributed as a single incandescent or fluorescent bulb would provide; for that reason it's not ideal for reading, but it is tolerable, and the compact size, light weight, cord-free convenience, and affordable cost combine to make me well-satisfied with this item.

I bought this on a whim to use during power outages, which are common enough here in Maine. Recently I started having back problems and found I could only sleep comfortably on the couch. But getting up off that couch to turn off the lights after reading is agony, so I started using this little light. It's unpretentious but extremely practical. Its ratcheting head throws a good reading beam right where you want it, and the D batteries last forever (maybe 50 hours of bedtime reading so far on the first set), and their weight gives it good stability. Makes me wonder why so many modern gizmos use those foolish little AA cells that cost a mint and last a minute.

For two years we had complaints from the people handling the registation desk for a multi-day event that they needed additional lighting. Unfortunately, the area where the table was set up had no access to an electrical outlet. We purchased two of these lamps and the problem was solved. It has two different levels of light output, and although it does not cover a wide footprint, the lights illuminated the workarea quite well and everyone was pleased.

...and I'm here to tell you why. I use these lamps at work where I'm employed as a security guard. I spend the last four hours of my shift each evening sitting at a small podium/desk with nothing much to do except read. The lobby's dim and there's no lighting at the desk. This lamp fits perfectly in the space available and it provides perfect lighting for my Kindle Touch (which I love, BTW.) The base provides great steadiness due to its width and the presence of 3 'DD' batteries that provide the power and weigh it down.

The problem with these lamps is that every one that I've bought has broken in the exact same way. The slightest bump causes the neck to break away from the base. I guess that they're simply glued together but the glue is obviously not 'Super'. I carry these lamps back and forth from home to work every day on public transportation so they do get bumped around. Once the two pieces separate, the only things holding them together are two wires running from the batteries to the On/Off switch in the neck of the lamp. Twice these wires have broken before I got a chance to do something to prevent it, rendering the lamps useless.

With this last (fourth) lamp, I've already used VERY strong, wide, Duck Tape Duck Brand 1265013 1.88-Inch by 20-Yard Colored Duck Tape, Midnight Madness to hold the base and neck together in the event of the next bump. Hopefully this with be enough.

I've given this product three stars because it is still very useful except for this problem (which I hope is preventable.)

This was a great find, and I'm so glad I ordered several at its price under $7 each. I was looking for a good, effective, and practical alternative to flashlights for when we lose power which always seems to be after dark and before bedtime.

I have started using it as a light to read by late at night in another section of our bedroom so that I can direct the light on a book's page while not bothering my DH. I can position it so it properly shines over my right shoulder. I've never found a booklight that works to my satisfaction. This works really well.

The light can be on full 20 LEDs or at half with only 10 LEDs. It's mirrored around the LEDs so the light is strengthened.

It can be used as a flashlight as well. It fits my hand much better (ergonomically) better than normal flashlights. The part of the lamp with the LEDs can be adjusted some up or down.

I haven't tried hanging it. It does have a plastic hook by which it can be hung.

I'm very happy with this item.
