I'm not a big fan of Skil power tools in general. They tend to be underpowered and lack durability. However, I do purchase them from time to time to fill a gap while I am waiting for my wife's approval to get what I really want.
Purchased it for $39.99 from wally world (price matched Lowe's). Got it home and put it together (simple). Left the light off left side since I had read it limits access some. After a couple days I was only using the right side because I DID like the light so I put on the left. What I have used it for:
Grinding: sharpening hand tools: shovels, hand edger, clippers, pruning shears, pick ax, ax, hatchet, wood chisels, knives, lawn mower blades, log splitter and wedges.
6" Kobalt wire brush (be nice if it were included, but for $40): primarily for rust and paint removal from above mentioned items.
Within 2 hours I had sharpened everything in my garage (we have an armadillo problem in GA, so I like to be prepared). NOTHING bogged down the 2.1 amp motor which I had expected to happen.
I had a rusty 10" forged steel log splitting wedge I had found. Used the wire brush to clean off the rust, no problem. Got curious and used it to grind the wedge down to about 1". Even when applying pressure I did NOT notice any slowing of the wheel.
All use has been without being fastened down (as someone else noted, not very safe). This grinder runs QUIET, SMOOTH (none of the vibration I have read about on other models) and gets up to speed almost immediately.
I am impressed. Very happy I decided to buy it, I mean a 10" forged steel wedge? I can't think of anything else I will use it for that is heavier duty than that. Maybe the acquisition of Skil by Bosch in 1996 improved Skil's quality. Anyway, I have had it for 2 weeks now and have yet to bog it down. Money I was saving up for GSM200 will go to something else for now and I plan to keep this until it breaks.

Bought this skil bench grinder at Walleymart for under $50. Set-up was fairly easy. I was able to quickly sharpen several lawnmower blades, an ax and a hatchet without even fastening down the grinder(not recommending this practice ,but it allows me to easily move this light weight grinder to use in other locations or just to make room for other projects in my very limited space. The grinder runs quiet and very smooth with none of the vibration or wobbling /walking problems I've read about in reviews of grinders costing double or more! So , for what it is a small and light under $50 household bench grinderI give it a 5 star rating for light duty sharpening tasks after one use. It sure beats the cordless dremel and the sharpening attachment on a drill I've struggled with for years.Best Deals for SKIL 3380-02 120-Volt 6-Inch Bench Grinder
I was given a Skil Bench Grinder as a wedding present in 1965 and it started getting wobbly already so just this once I decided to give them another chance. It is low end on power--just fine for tool sharpening, cleaning with the wire brush wheel, polishing and such. I am pleased.Honest reviews on SKIL 3380-02 120-Volt 6-Inch Bench Grinder
Right from out of the box this little skil grinder worked like a charm. I am satisfied with both the power as well as the access to the wheels. The light is something I really didn't need, but there were times in which I found that little extra light came in handy. I have to admit I put this little tool through heck and back again during last summer, as I didn't have a shed yet, and basically used it off of a master workbench. Because the piece is nicely balanced (offset weight in the center) I was able to lock it in my bench and never had a problem with vibrations or rotary functions whatsoever. All in all a nice little Bench Grinder, well worth it for those who want a simple solvent for the price.
