First of all, this is a sturdy flashlight and matches my other Ryobi power tools. It has a convenient rotating collar to direct light upwards or downwards. However, the bulb burnt out the first day of use and I'm realizing what a pain an 18V filament flashlight bulb can be.

I think anyone who has bought a flashlight in the last couple years is familiar with the superiority of an LED over a halogen filament: much longer life, much lower power consumption, cooler. Now, Ryobi is in a bit of a spot, because this is tied into their 18V battery, and 18V is much more than the typical cheap LED can handle, so they would likely create an array of LEDs (perhaps 6 or so to best allocate the voltage). Still such a flashlight would be vastly superior to this one, and well worth the extra price.

As it is, the only two selling points of this light are that it matches my tools, and it uses a high capacity rechargeable battery that I am motivated to keep topped off.

[Update: I was able to find a single LED replacement for $18 on eBay and that works OK, albeit not spectacularly bright or as nicely designed as an LED array would be. And it cost more than the whole flashlight. Still it brings this flashlight up to the minimum I expect a modern flashlight to be.]

Overall this is a very good flashlight. The head swivels so that when you are using it, it can be placed down and the light still directed where needed. The light itself is very bright, so you can see what you are working on, or where you are walking. The Lithium battery has a longer life span then the older style batteries, so it will last for the time you need it to complete most projects.

The one down side is that the handle opening is small, so that if you are a man (or someone with larger hands) you will have some difficulty holding it. If you have smaller hands, it should be no problem.

I've had one of these for about 2 years and am fairly happy with it; thus the 4 stars. But the current price I see it at, $43 seems really high; I believe it was selling in the low teens when I got it.

The swiveling head is very useful. I wish it could stand on its side though to really make it versatile. It still works well after 2 years of using it a couple times a week. Of course a lot depends on the Ryobi battery used in it.

As other readers posted I don't think its type of bulb can match high end LEDs. But it does put out good light. It has a wider beam than spotlights, though not a floodlight. It's good for lighting up a particular area you need to work on (like if you're changing a car tire) but not good for lighting up a room.

The beam will also throw a long distance. If it didn't take the same rechargeable battery as my other tools I would probably pass on it, especially for over $40, and get one of the modern LED lights. In fact, I just got a small, $35, Fenix E21 that runs on 2 AA batteries and I actually like the light from it better than this one cleaner and it seems a bit brighter.

Honest reviews on Ryobi Light 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Work Light (battery and charger

This model is Ryobi's new version of their flashlight.

The old version is much better. The old version has a rocker

type switch; easy to turn off and on. This model is a push button

and is very hard to push hard enough to get the flashlight to come off and on.

Plus the height off the ground is shorter than the old version; so you cannot put it in as many postures to point to the subject by itself. I was so

disgusted with this "new" model that came with a set of other ryobi tools that I promptly went out and bought a fifth flashlight of the old model; knowing the older and far better model would soon be impossible to find.

I had seen this light offered as a part of a set of tools quite a few times; however, I had no need for the rest of the set. When I saw this light on Amazon, I grabbed it. I have other 18V One+ Ryobi tools, so the light fits right in because I also have extra batteries. The flash light works like, well a flashlight! No problems and I use it for the purpose intended. The light is bright and relatively lite weight if you use the small lithium ion battery.
