So in theory these lights would have been perfect for my husbands garage. We bought two at a local hardware store for $25 each. The first one started smoking as soon as we put batteries in it and continued to smoke even with the batteries out. The second one wouldn't work at all with brand new batteries so we plugged it in and it still didn't work. These were very disappointing.

LIKES: I will say that one very cool feature of these light strips is that you can choose to use either 3 or 6 AA batteries (brightness is not affected, only the length of time until you have to do a battery change). They mount easily with screws and although they are supposed to come with velcro strips and easy mount brackets, I found both of those did not work well and 2 screws was the best mount.OLD/NEW MODELS LABELED SAME: I ordered a quantity of 2. When my order arrived, they looked identical on the front side with the light strip bar but the backside was completely different (screw mount holes in different places, battery compartment styles). They are both labeled as the same model, however. I will upload the photos so you can see what they look like side by side mounted. The one on the left is what I believe to be the newer model, the right one is what I believe to be the older model (i.e. the recipient of all the negative reviews online).
Newer model (left):
*3 battery compartment
*brighter bulbs
*tighter positioning hinges on light strip
Older model (right):
*dimmer bulbs (believe this is due to poor circuitry from compartment style and battery contacts within)
*2 battery compartment
*difficulty with circuitry/battery compartment design causes on/off to work unpredictably
*looser hinges; does not hold positioning of light strip
All in all, when you get the newer model, this is a very cool lightweight LED solution! So for that...I give it 5 stars!
