Boy, it's hard to find a good behind-the-headboard reading lamp. Had ordered one previously with LED bulbs, and, true to the text on the box, it was only usable when all the other lights were off, and even then, you had to be a cat to see the print on a page. This unit has a 50 watt halogen bulb. As a reviewer for a higher-powered unit noted, 100 watts is REALLY hot, especially when it's right above your head. This is warm, but not too bad, and the light is excellent for reading, whether or not there are other lights on. They're attractive (if a bit busy), and appear to be well made with well-fitted parts. Nice touch the lamp comes with the cord cover for simple mounting, and two bulbs.
One warning it's very simple to install, but NOT if you try to follow the included instructions, which are among the very worst I've ever encountered. Anyone familiar with basic how-to projects should be able to mount this in a few minutes without the "help" of the instructions.

We have two George Kovacs reading lamps (different design) over our bed that work pretty well. We bought two of these for our apartment downstairs and they have been nothing but trouble. There are too many joints on this lamp, and they do not tighten well. This resulted in the lamp drooping down onto the pillow and burning the pillow case and pillow before the smoke was noticed (the tenant was out of the room, talking with me at the time).I have tried to tighten the joints repeatedly with no real success. This past week, one of them shorted out, tripping the breaker and making it unable to reset until we unplugged the lamp and got rid of it. I am now needing to replace these lamps with something else.

We bought pair of these wall sconces about 6 years ago, after a wide search for lamps that were attractive, well made and provided the light needed for our bedroom. We have been happy with them but recently one of them broke at the base of the long single extension where it meets the pivot. We discovered a thin weld holds the rod. We think a light like this, for the amount of money spent, should last decades, not a few years. That said, it may be worth repairing which is our hope. We hope our experience is an isolated one.Honest reviews on George Kovacs P254-084 Wall Sconce, Brushed Nickel
The tables lamps I had just were not doing the job for reading. I bought two of these as my wife and I are avid readers. We installed above the bed and they work great. I did a lot of research for a light and this one was perfect.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for George Kovacs P254-084 Wall Sconce, Brushed Nickel
