Disclaimer I am not an electrician and my knowledge of watts. amps etc has faded into the distance. Anyway I needed to replace a socket in a downlighter in my wife's reception area that uses low-voltage 50 watt halogen bulbs which continually fail. I believe that this is a result of the heat from the lamp and poor construction. Usual story expensive fitting supplied by US company using low grade components made in China. As the bulb fail every few months the constant changing weakens the wires entering the socket. So I used this to replace the broken socket and found that the wire guage appears pretty good much like the factory installed gauge. The wire is about 6 inches long It seems a lot thicker than some ones you can buy more cheaply from that well known online auction site

Anyway now that led lamp prices have fallen dramatically I am switching the 20 odd reception downlighters to LED so the heat aspect should no longer be a problem. In nay event I think that this socket would be no worse than the original

I used these to replace original sockets in ceiling light fixtures that lost there temper because of heat. These seem better engineered and solved my problem. They have nice large heat reflecting shield.

Bought two of these to replace broken existing halogen recessed fixtures. Both work as expected. Only wish wires were a few inches longer, they were only about 6" which means I had to connect with wire nuts inside the recessed fixture, instead of inside of the fixture junction box which is the intention. Would have cost a few cents more to make the wires longer!
