These low-wattage lamps are made from hollowed-out Himalayan rock-salt, so are normally quite heavy. They can come in any regular geometric shape to rough-hewn, natural chunks. At 4" high this one is smaller and lighter than most, and as a bonus it has an LED which enables it to change colour every few seconds. It's solid rock-crystal with a hollowed-out channel inside to accommodate the 15 Watt bulb, which runs off your computer via a cable ending in a USB connector so is ideal for a working desk.

These lamps are aesthetically beautiful artefacts to grace any living space, and certain health benefits are claimed for the crystal: the heat from the lamp causes the rock-salt molecules to diffuse into the surrounding air resulting in beneficial negative ionisation, and so on. I don't know if the science on these claims is strong, but they certainly seem to calm down the environment.

Night-light candle versions containing a naked flame are also available, but they don't change colour like this one. They all make good low-power night lights, but you might sleep better with a single constant colour rather than the colour-changer variant.

Prices of these lamps have come down in recent years, and they are very good value now.

I think it's real cute. when I got it I was thinking I ordered a bigger one but this was big enough. It dropped off the ledge and hit my foot and then the tile floor and didn't break. It was my xmas tree for this year.

Very soothing and the perfect size for your night stand or bedside table. The color changes are calming. And it does not get hot no matter how long you leave it on...I have left it on in excess of 14 hours in a row and never did it get hot. I love this little lamp.
