I purchased several of these for recessed lighting about a year ago. They work well -they're compatible with most dimmers, present good color temperature and are energy efficient. The big downside of these bulbs is that, even with the wider angle version, they felt too narrow in terms of diffusion of light. The result would be a somewhat "spotlight" effect under the bulb.

The design of this particular bulb is about a year old, and as with all things, technology has moved on. Philips has more recently introduced the Philips 423400 8-Watt R20 Indoor Flood LED Light Bulb, which is the far superior replacement to this bulb. It consumes only one more watt than the 7W version for sale here, but it produces about 80% more light (520 lumens vs. 280 lumens), and the light dispersion angle is much, much superior. I just replaced my 7W bulbs with the newer 8W bulbs and it made a huge difference.

The light color seems to be true to the 2700 deg. K spec. Brightness is similar to 50w halogen bulbs I replaced. These will fit fine in a 4" recessed fixture with standard trim rings. The beam pattern is more of a spotlight.

I was able to retrofit one of these bulbs into a 4" eyeball trim. I drilled out the trim's rivets holding the light socket plate. Then installed the bulb and fastened the plate back to the trim housing using #6 machine screws (1/2"). The diameter of the bulb is too wide to fit inserted from the front of the eyeball trim, but installed as I outlined, the trim's opening is just about the same diameter as the cooling vents around the front rim of the bulb.

The product is great. The light is warm in color unlike most flourescents. It is also virtually instant on. In an area that seems to be hard on lights, these have lasted. Would definitely buy again.
